Plenty of time to put on size before your show.

I think hoping to add size right now would be foolish. I still need to lose fat, and knowing my body, I can't hope to gain new muscle while being in a calorie deficit. I'm still maintaining 240lbs... I plan to be on stage at approx 225 barely making the SHW class.

Of course you can. I done it so many times on clients during contest dieting I've lost count. Total myth that you can't lose muscle while losing fat.

No offense aaron, but jim, i wouldnt give advice to this guy. He obviously isnt taking this contest prep seriously, he admitted earlier in the thread to cheating all weekend on his diet while being about 8 weeks out from a contest and behind where he should be in condition.

Thats great though for aaron, it should be all about fun and having a good time. People take competing way too seriously, especially at the local and state levels, they lose relationships, jobs, and savings accounts over a plastic trophy and if your lucky a sword. More power to you singerman, just do what makes u happy.

And lastly, A to the sling, i saw earlier u talked about being 225 onstage bla bla bla........Dont worry bout how much u weigh dude, Bob Paris was 6' feet tall and was 220 onstage, and IMO he was the greatest to ever put on a thong and oil.

BS.

He does look juiced and I bet you'd be suprised how big he looks in real life.

Are you a natty who trained for 5-10 years and looks like that ?

Nope ? Yeah right.. thought so. He's not in amazing shape but he is a big guy.

Not everyone's got the genes to look like an IFBB pro.. but still funny how people think that look would be easy to achieve naturally yet none of these guys look like bodybuilders. Take that from a guy who has been lifting for almost a decade.

@Aaron :

Don't worry about your weight too much - there's no way in hell that you only have to loose 15lbs from now on to be in contest shape.

Yeah he can if he jacks up the doses and types of drugs. :D

Now if he eases from a peak off season drug/training program into diet mode do you think he can add a significant amount of muscle? If so, what advice would you give to make it happen?

Adding muscle is hard enough in a calorie surplus, very slow after a while unless you make "big" changes in some of the important parameters.

I'd like to hear about this too. I'm convinced that without the building blocks you can't build a house. No calories= no additional muscle. BUT, I'd love to be proven wrong.

(Keep in mind I'm talking about a advanced lifter... With 10+ years in the gym)

I know that you like to read a lot about different studies and stuff and no offense, but sooner or later the medical student has to close his book and get in the operating room. This is where you will find out the things are a whole lot different. If it was just a matter of Aaron loading up his needle with more drugs I'd imagine that he would have figured that out by now.

Let me give  you an example. I had a guy who I know come to me who was not happy with his trainer. I get this all the time. He knows that I am not training people at this time, but wanted me to look at his diet. Three weeks ago he weighed 250 and was very lean. I made 3 adjustments to his diet, added a tad more cardio and changes his supplement program too. 2.5 weeks later he was down 2% in bodyfat and weighed 250.

Gaining muscle and losing fat, one has nothing to do with the other. I am surprised  that people are still on this kick that you can not gain muscle while losing fat. I've been training people for a long time and I've had clients from Chad Nichols, Dave Palumbo, Milos, and most recently George Farah so I've seen exactly what these guys do. 99% of the time it's their diet that is not correct.

Well, my comment really had nothing to do with any studies, much more to do with observation. I've seen tons of guys prep for shows, advised a few, etc.

The guy you advised, did he gain above and beyond his best LBM after you made the changes or was it a case of him coming down too fast and putting some muscle back on?

Unless Aaron has been doing everything wrong his whole training career it's unlikely he'll add any muscle now on a deficit, no matter what.

Energy intake does matter. :D

I really don't know exactly his best LBM and that's the thing as I doubt anyone really ever does, but he is at his visually biggest. This guy is 5 weeks out and when he came to me he was not losing fat as fast as he should, so basically he was behind schedule. The fact that he never lost weight on the scale was just a "side effect" of the adjustments that I made.

Aaron looks over dieted and maybe over trained also. He looks to me like someone who has not had carbs in a while and has had his calories too low for too long, but of course this is just me guessing based on how he looks. If I saw his diet and program it would be easy to make the necessary changes. Keep in mind I have prepped hundreds of guys for shows over the last 25 years and at this point  I very rarely run into someone that I can't help when things are not going as expected.

::)  You've prepped like what 3-4 clients?   Anything that Disgusted has said is not foolish. Its fucking true.  He's probably one of the best prep guys around and he doesnt need his name in lights like Chad or Hany.  Your going to be 6'2 218 on stage.  My last client was 5'10 223 on stage and it was his first NPC show.  Start taking advice a little better or just stick to podcasts.  Facts son, facts!
