Men confuse 'Alpha' status with 'Right Man' syndrome. 'Right Man' syndrome is defined by force, aggression, paranoia and inflexibility. These features create a static and rigid character who can be easily outsmarted, dismissed or rendered incompetant. They tend to rely on fear or tradition (religious qualities)to define future actions, are constantly looking for conspiracies against their power structures and will rely on character assassination or physcial dominance to justify their opinions. I would characterize 'The Coach' as having 'Right Man' qualities on Getbig.
A true 'Alpha' male in human terms means 'ability to lead'. This person can use force and aggression if the situation calls for it but can also read a changing environment and employ different tactics. They maintain a collected and confident persona and inspire by actions. Their results, achieved by their ability to adjust achieve them success. Intelligence + flexibility + results = alpha status. I would use Bill Clinton as an example here. Conversly, I would use GWB as an example of 'Right Man' syndrome...and this has nothing to do with their political persuasions just their tactics.
If you're interested, you can find out more about 'Right Man' syndrome here:
http://www.rightmansyndrome.com/Notice the tendeny of 'Right men' to see the world in black and white terms. Notice how religion is often used by these types in situations because it claims a right/wrong good/evil devil/angel reality tunnel.
Notice how 'Right Men' tend to find comfort in patriarchal, top down, pyramid style authoritarian systems like corporations, organized religion, professional sports and the military? Closed systems where the answers to life's questions are pre-supplied seem safer for these personality types. New information or ideas are deemed a threat to the structure system and banished in various and often brutal ways.
'alpha' males are constantly seeking new information so they can continue to adjust their leadership style to suceed. Bill Gates would be a good example of this.
