That's because his didn't commit a crime when he attacked the pound. For starters, he wasn't the one who even identified the pound's weakness. All he did was convince the trader who did identify it to take the gigantic position he did as the guy wasn't as ballsy as Soros. Secondly, most experts will tell you that England came out better after what he did.

The British have no one but themselves to blame as they put themselves in the position where the pound was weak. His guy was just the first to identify it. If he hadn't seen it, someone else would have. Britain was on borrowed time and the attack would have eventually come anyway.
