The policy of massive stimulus spending and growing government is not working. The Europeans are starting to understand this and were in disagreement with Obama about more spending at this recent G8 and G20 summit.

We must cut spending, stop the massive expansion of government and help create an environment for growth. Pro-growth absolutely does not have to be at odds with worker protections. But we cannot have a high tax environment, massive debt, stingy bank lending and uncertainty if we are trying to grow the economy.

i've got another 20 yrs till retirement however if my investments take care of me i could retire sooner. doesn;t matter right now i am just buying more stock for the same amount of money. i don;t understand why people take there money out when its down..thats when you lose

Long short answer is it's complicated. Your economy needs to go through a large transition, to ever function properly. You got over 30 years of lapse managing of the banks. Just look at your neighbors to the north. They got fixed liquidity of their banks which clearly needs to be must at this point. Not that i'd ever wanna live in a socialist state.
