heres a newsflash for you my big catepillar eyedbrowed friend...i was referring to golds gym not the arnold classic...welcome to earth ::)

Yeah...that makes a lot of sense, being that my post only discussed the ARNOLD...I never mentioned Golds.

Remedial...at best

The post NaturalBlutoIQ83 quoted:

Couldnt be more wrong...the time for Arnold to "distance himself from BB"...would have been years ago when he was running for Gov, and all the steroid shit started becoming an issue on capitol hill...

The arnold calssic pro BB continues to be the epicenter of th weekend, and the amateur arnold was added just 2 years ago with hundereds of athleets from all over the world competing...the sports expo has certainly expanded greatly over the years, but to think that it will be dissolved is laughable.

His attempt to lash out at Bob, who he holds contempt for:

yeah sorry hollywood bob but ya opinion holds no weight-u left venice for florida so youre outta the loop as usual

And Bluto's rebuttal to Bob's post:

heres a newsflash for you my big catepillar eyedbrowed friend...i was referring to golds gym not the arnold classic...welcome to earth ::)

NaturalBlutoIQ83, if you were referring to Venice Golds-be it in a thread about Venice Golds or not- why did you quote the post regarding the Arnold Classic?

When Bob's post had direct correlation to your post, you comeback with some stupid retort which just shot yourself in the foot, because you were in the wrong.

As Bob (and I believe TP maybe as well) has said in the past...."There is a difference between reading and comprehension."

You might remember when this happened a few years ago, I was on the scene live, and posting about it. There is still a thread in the archives...... I think its something like "Arnold Disowns Gold's Venice"

Anyways...I got the scoop straight from Golds' management themselves when it was happening. It was a big deal to everyone in Venice at the time.

Indeed I do remember the story here on Getbig with the pics and all but it's your response as to why they were taken down I'm finding hard to believe.

Art Zeller passed away back in 1999 and those Arnold posters were taken down roughly around 2008. Josie is gonna decide to throw a fit nearly 10 years later because of "royalty" and that's why they were taken down? I'm not so quick to buy it.

Damn. Someone should ask Arnold straight up at next year's Arnold seminar!  :D

1st off i hold no contempt for bob
2nd off i quoted bobs quote because he mentioned arnold which was revelant because we were talking about the pix of arnold at golds in venice
any post in this thread ultimately relates back to golds venice

well you defiantly know more about pro bodybuilding then me.........way more

but i still hold to my opinion, because there very well may be a presidential run for arnold in the future..............whic h will require another offensive of lawyers and other people trying to bury his past for him

also, because i am an anonymous shithead on  a message board..............i can say anything without worrying about repercussions.   where as you are beholden to certain people in the industry, because of your jobs(s)..........you no longer are able to really speak truthfully about people.........you have to be political and tactful.  dont mistake that for an insult, you have a great job(s) .............one i would personally love.  and i realize that a certain amount of politic-ing is necessary.

but my original point i still hold to............arnold will continue to phase BB out of the "Arnold Sports Festival"............he is already doing it

Appreciate the response...

But I think you're missing my point, which is that the FACTS dont support what youre saying...just the opposite. He's not only "not doing it", but putting money IN to bb and expanding it...

As for running for President...unless they change the constitution (unlikely in our lifetime) it aint happening.

lets be REALLY honest here Bob..........and i know im armchair quarterbacking here

for HOW MUCH bodybuilding did FOR arnold............which is EVERYTHING.....everythin g arnold has, the money, the fame, the political office.......would NEVER have been possible if it wasnt for bodybuilding

Arnold when you look at it.,....is not doing all that much for bodybuilding

yes, once a year he lends his name to jim lorimer to promote the Arnold Classic.........Now Promoted as the ARnold Sports Festival which further marginalizes pro bodybuilding (now its just One of the many attractions).............and in turn for lending his name............gets paid what, a  couple million.........not a bad tradeoff

and yes, usually he will hop in the private jet and fly to vegas to be present for 5 minutes while they hand out the sandow at the O once every few years

after that................WHAT THE FUCK IS HE DOING

he could PERSONALLY Quadruple the mr olympia prize money........and it would probably be a tax/charity write off............. he would not even notice such a pittance on his bottom line at the end of the year

likewise, he could do the same kind of shit at the arnold classic, instead of making another couple million dollars............or he could sponsor more circuit shows

he does nothing when you think about it............and he does not have to.........he certainly isnt obligated

but come on, i know arnold is a god in this industry...............b ut when it comes down to brass tax,,,,,,,,he does VERY LITTLE...........and the little he does do..........is motivated by monetary reward.

which is kind of weird............how much more fucking money does he need at this point...........at some point, your just being a pig

'
my point is........lets not lie to ourselves...........arno ld is the consummate opportunist who used bodybuilding as a stepping stone............and his "loyalty" to the sport is really non-existant

Well this was exactly what the Gold's general manager told me when it was happening in late 07. I believe him, and I would think that he would have resorted to a "no comment," or similar response, rather then try and convolute such a tale.

No I think it is safe to say that the management of Gold's at the time probably knows what they are talking about....  ::)

The real question is why did a couple of them go back up.  I will ask around when I am back in Golds on Thur, and see if I can get an answer.

You're kind of agruing against your own point, if the motivation isnt money, then he REALLY has no reason to continue with having his name attached to a BB show...as it is Jim Lorimer promotes and does all the leg work...

Everything you just stated is pretty spot on...but the bottom line is that he's been doing those things (or not doing them) for YEARS...this isnt anything new...and certainly doesnt support the theory that hes downgrading, pulling out, etc.

If there was a time where the prize money was bigger, or there were 5 BB events, now reduced to 4, or he didnt bother showing up anymore...then you might have a point...

im putting myself in someone elses head.......so the absurdity of me speaking to the governor's intrinsic altruistic motivations is not lost on me........but hey, its getbig

as far as arnolds motivations concerning the arnold classic,,,i think it is an amalgam of different factors

a) he, although rich beyond belief, likes the money.......lets face it, arnold is not known for his monastic lifestyle

b)  for his ego.........he likes being the center of attention........and having events in his honor......arnold's ego is legendary

c)  to an extent he feels obligated, this event started in 1989, a time when arnold was still closer to the BB scene............now, for many reasons, he is not very connected to the bodybuilding scene.....but he knows that he would look like kinda a dick if he all of a sudden dropped the event........probably also out of loyalty to jim lorimer

d)  an the bottom of the list is a very small desire to give back to bodybuilding and promote the sport........and like i said....its pretty easy for him..........in return for just his name, he walks away with a lot of money,....its not like he really DOES anything.

also bob.......you CANT deny that in the past couple of years............the event has really DE-emphasized bodybuilding........you could say its just that Arnold has such passion for all manifestations of athletic competition.........or that he wanted more money..............in my opinion the events marginalization of bodybuilding has fallen DIRECTLY in line with his political career.......it all happened at the same time

it went from "The Arnold Classic" to ..........."The Arnold Sports Festival" featuring the Arnold Classic bodybuilding event

if arnold had such loyalty to bodybuilding.,.......he would have kept it a bodybuilding event.......now, the bodybuilders are just one of the exhibits (i know you have points to argue this).................bodybui lding is like a laughed-at sideshow in the athletic world.............it would be nice to keep the event about them

perhaps it was presumptuous fo r me to say that  Arnold will stop putting on the arnold classic bodybuilding event.........his term as governor is almost up, he might have a bad taste in his mouth from politics and be done with it, so he will have no reason to continue to dissociate himself from bodybuilding............ ....but i believe if his political career DOES continue..........he will almost definitely forfeit the arnold classic

golds gym venice is nothing but a fluffer gym these days, a 24 hour fitness with golds name on it.........the nostalgia, and atmosphere have been gone since 2002.......fuck golds venice and the management..........yeah josh IM talking about you........and screw matteo too, the ex manager, dumbasses!

Gold's Gym aint what it used to be. at least some of them. a Buddy of mine gave me a pass to workout at a Bally's located in Green Belt, Maryland. I swear this ballys is more hardcore than most Gold's gym in the Area. the only thing that this bally's lack was the Dumbbells Size. the heaviest was 95lbs. it's a one of a kind Bally's, I was shocked. then I heard the Manager of this Bally's is a NPC competitor. he sure did a great Job with the weight room. they're thinking of incresing the Dumbbells size and add more weights to the weight room. Hell, I might quit my Gold's and join them

I CAN deny that the event has de-emphasised BB over the last few years, as none of the facts support that notion...adding an amateur BB event, holding the event in the prime time spot, selling it out year after year, and still being portrayed as the centerpiece of the weekend in terms of ad campaign, not to mention it's Arnolds background...all point to the complete opposite.

Adding events and increasing it a hundred fold over the years doesnt de-emphasise the BB portion, it only increases the weekend as a whole making it a true "sports festival"...what you're saying doesnt make any sense

Adding the amateur event was a good idea and a great move as well as giving out a pro card to the winner, more things like this need/should be done

I usually am on the same page with Unsung but he's way off here.

If Arnold was distancing himself from BBing....he wouldn't do what he does now.  Be it a lot or a little....it's what he's been doing for 20 years now.

He would have said "C-ya" a few years back when the steroid shit was out-of-control crazy.

As far as paying purses out of his pocket...that's just ridiculous.

The fact that BBing is 100% perceived by the general public as a drug-infested freakshow, and a dude who is a fucking POLITICIAN hasn't completely washed his hands of it a LONG time ago, says more to shoot down your argument than I ever could.

The Arnold amateur is not a pro qualifier

Sure it is, Roelly got his pro card by winning the Arnold Amateur, so did Tarek El Setui.

Both of those gentlemen got their pro cards via their own country of origin, as thye petitioned to turn pro....if anyone from the states happens to win it, there is no provision for a pro card.  You would still have to win the USA, Nats, etc
