I've been in fistfights/shoving matches before, never pulled mine in those situations.  Random shit does pop off, particularly when you're 21/22 that doesn't happen at 30.  Just showing the gun without legal reason is ONE YEAR in prison.  Pointing it at someone, the sentence climbs rapidly. 

Most people with gun permits - you never know they're carrying.  Sure, you get the grizzled guy with camo pants and an H&K shirt, guns are all he has and he's just dying for a conversation.  But most people with permits, you never know they're armed. 

great point , people are clueless on how many people are carry right besides them everywhere they go. it defeats the purpose to let everyone know.

if someone breaks into your house and is threatening your family, it is not wrong to shoot htem down.  so dont say "we've all been there", b/c u obviously havent.  We CAN be trusted with a gun at those points in time, and the trust is that we WILL USE IT.  theres nothing wrong with using it either.  It's not a "rage", its called protection of your family.  let me know how things go when an armed burglar breaks in and you dont have a weapon and he rapes and kills your wife and kids in front of you.  let me know if you would have liked to have a gun then.

Just like the price of cocaine...

Also you have to take into account the culture surrounding freedom of access to handguns. I can assure you in countries with a high level of restricted access to firearms there is an absence of a "handgun mentality". The means of violence are predominately non lethal close contact melee attacks. Although the widespread exposure of the firearm culture through the distribution of mass marketed American film does have an effect.
