Who said it has to be either/or? The social policies get slipped into the mix, behind the fiscal policies.
People in the middle (of this clusterfvck) don't care about social policies one bit. Gays marrying or teens selling abortions to stem cell researchers don't mean crap if someone's house, job is gone and putting their kids in college is unaffordable.
Perfect example: he "marriage penalty" expiring Jan 1st. One of them could simply send up a bill that only addressed it for votes. They won't because someone would throw a billion dollars worth of pork on it or include an addendum about abortion/gays or whatever to prevent married couples from having tax relief without their political ideology being advanced. Instead of relief, married people will get rhetoric.

Sadly, many of them will love it because more taxes will be considered a small price to pay if whatever agenda they're sold on is advanced.
They're all freaking whores and Vegas ain't the only place prostitution is perfectly legal.
