There are rumors about a company looking to buy the one I work at and they are in Charlotte, NC.  Other rumors are that they will offer people here to move there and close the SD office.  I say fuck no.  I'm not leaving San Diego to North Carolina.  The thing is there are people here that will move immediately.  They have this mentality that this job is all they can do and are chicken to find a new job but are willing to move cross country to keep their job.  I just don't get this mentality.

If it's the same salary your money will go a lot farther than living in cali. Another point being have you ever lived anywhere else before? Look at it an an adventure, another chapter in your list of life experiences. I know a lot of people who have lived all over the world and had so many good and bad experinces but it made them stonger and very interesting people to know. Don't you be scared by staying put, get out and live.

I'd say depending on your age, family, etc..

being a former born and raised san diego girl, my instincts say NOOOOOOOOOO to the move. I'd move back in a heartbeat if I could

I would never leave my current city. And I wouldn't pick NC over SD.

If you decide to move anywhere near Apenis or Goodrum be prepared.  Your IQ will immediately lose up to 50 points.  You will suddenly see things differently.  Like all of a sudden when you look into a mirror you see these huge muscles and you are ripped to shreds.  There is a slight chance you will turn gay and a very remote chance you will either get darker or almost transparent.  Depends on which side of the creek you drink from.  Also, you will find out if you live closer to Goodrum $1 all of a sudden feels like it is worth $1000.  But, it is the opposite if you move near Apenis.  $1000 there is like a $1 everywhere else.  Plus you need watch out for Apenis falling from the sky.  He is still trying to get his Gravity Suit to work.  good luck, but I would stay in San Diego

I traveled everywhere.  I worked as a consultant for years so had the chance to see a lot of the world and this country.  Finally settled in SD.  I'm just amazed at how quickly people are willing to get up and move for a job.  I could understand if it was a million dollar job, but these are far from it.

the only thing you ll learn going everywhere is that people are the same everywhere once you spend some time (months) with them and start seeing under the begning, superficial differences. Everyone watch the same shit on tv , want to Eat, fuck, look good and healthy, work, have a nice flat lcd screen and a suv...same everywhere.  Especially in our age of rampant globalization and standardisation of living conditions. Basically everyone wants to live like occidentals (north american, europeans) .

As long as these are just rumours you don't have to take a decision, but where there's smoke, there is most likely a fire, so I would start preparing - update your CV, reach out to people you know in other companies to activate your network, find out what their companies are doing - are they growing etc. (don't ask them about jobs yet, otherwise it looks like you only talk to them because you want something). Talk to job agencies etc.

At this stage it is all about getting enough information to have a base for making your decision, once the shit hits the fan. Whether you move with the firm or not very much depends on your other options, so you need to know what your other options are.

Based on where I'm at, yes, in a heartbeat.  NC is at the top of my list of where I'd like to move.

This is available on Lake Norman for $500K

What can you get in SD for $500K?

Princess you cant get shit (not to be crude but)..I saw a house down in Chula Vista, which isnt the best place of san diego..Fucking shit box for 550k. No land, nothing. Matter of fact, the house I grew up in, parents bought in 71 for 65K. 2 story, patio, deck, inground pool in SD, they sold it when we moved in 90 for almost 300k and was listed 2 years ago for 850K, needless to say my father wanted to put a gun to his head. I told him he should of rented that house out, mortgage was only 400 bucks. But on the plus side, so much to do in SD. Amazing beaches, Mexico is a drive away, sure there is traffic but still.
Not sure where you live but at least its summer time right now.

Speaking of putting a gun to your head  :o  I think I'd do that in SD traffic and I like my "space" (privacy), not living on top of my neighbors.

In NC, it's a short drive to the beach or to the mountains.
