IMO, apathy.  Sitting around on their asses year after year letting rates skyrocket out of control helped push this on the agenda.  Now we're stuck with this POS legislation.

I think you’re right.

Don’t forget that Hillary tried to push this bullshit through back in ’93.
She couldn’t even get support from Democratic senators and even a Democratic congress.
Health care has gotten a lot more out of control than it was then.
Hillary’s 1,000 page bill even saw several key compromise proposals that almost made it seem somewhat reasonable in comparison to Hussein’s.

Something had to be done about health care; no doubt.
But - like everything else O has done - this isn’t the right answer, and - like everything else - will probably move us farther in the wrong direction.

How did the Republicans make this pass? Did a single Republican vote for this piece of shit legislation?

12 years of a repub congress, in which they didn't do anything except prevent clinton from changing a thing, then sitting on 'status quo' mode for the bush era.

It had to be expected.... the minute the dems got control of all 3 lawmaking bodies, they'd shove a shit sandwich thru, and it'd pass.  Rates have skyrocketed the last 2 years for many of us - BEFORE Obamacare.  So either the insurance companies knew what was coming and decided to stack up some loot beforehand... or shit was suddenly spiraling out of control, and inaction has been proven to fail.

So now we're throwing shit at the wall to see what works.  Repubs had 12 years to change shit so it wouldn't come to this.  It's like the stepfather that beats his daughter daily... then acts all surprised when she marries the first guy that says hello.

The “evil” Republicans weren’t the only ones preventing Clinton from “changing a thing.”

When Hillary was appointed head of the Task Force on National Health Care Reform and introduced her bill, it was Democrats in congress.
Repubs didn’t take over until midterm elections in ’94.

Hillary met objection from Democratic Senators, Democratic Congress, and even a lawsuit filed by the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons.

The AMA's bending over for Obama on this, as well as the AARP, was disgusting and completely against their members' interests.

And, why?
This bill is a lot harsher than the 1993 version.
What is the AAPS's stance?
I can't believe they'd go for it.

I like how certain posters in this thread completely ignore ALL the facts & make it out as though it was only the Repubs who opposed this b.s. seventeen years ago.
Democratic Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan was quoted as saying "There is no health care crisis. There is an insurance crisis."
He followed up those statements with, "anyone who thinks [the Clinton health care plan] can work in the real world as presently written isn't living in it."

My personal belief is that Obama is the embodiment and fulfillment of 40 years of affirmative action, anti-american propaganda, liberal white guilt, uber-race consciousness, dumbing down of public education, etc.

It manifests itself in many ways and is evidenced by many posters here.

1.  His election victories over Hillary.  By any measure Hillary was far more qualified, experienced, and educated on the issues than Obama.  The media, looking for the story of the first black president, completely kneepadded obama and ignored his record of radical associations and ZERO experience whatsoever.

2.  Liberal white guilt to where they never criticize Obama, despite the multitude of horrific policies, decisions, appointments, etc.

3.  Corporations were afraid to speak out on this admns' marxist agenda for fear of being branded racist.

4.  Obvious failures are glossed over for fear that the first black president will be painted an incompetent and a failure, which he is.

5.  Things anyone else would get hung for go applauded when Obama does it for obvious reasons.

And on and on.

more simplistic nonsense

Liberals/Left Wing/Progressives etc... criticize Obama EVERY DAY

You once again project your own latent racism on everyone else.

In spite of the SC decision, corporations are not really people and thus can't speak.   There have been plenty of CEO and other corporatists on both sides who have spoken out agains againt Obama (and all Dems) before, during and post election.

I was referring to the Business Round Table, Wall Street, Bufett, Verizon, Fed Ex, even GE, Mort Zuckerman, et al.

Wall Street and Corporate America backed Obama over McCain and only now that they see who he truly is are waking up the reality of just who they helped put in office.

Progressives?  Maybe a portion are like yourself on certain issues, but by and large most are not.  I think many on the left who are true believers are in shock TBH since Obama is pursuing an agenda that really no one likes but the politicially connected companies that will feed off the trough of these ridiculous policies.
