UFC 121 - Lesnar vs Velasquez in Anaheim, CA
« on: July 10, 2010, 12:59:22 AM »
The UFC is targeting UFC 121 for Oct. 23 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, and it’s got a big main event: Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez.

UFC President Dana White confirmed the news with MMAFighting.com on Friday night. Lesnar, who said he wanted to take some time off for farming duties before returning to the Octagon, verbally agreed to the contract on Friday morning. He’ll defend his heavyweight belt against Velasquez, the undefeated workhorse who stopped Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria in the first round at UFC 109 earlier this year.

The UFC last visited California for UFC 104 in October 2009, where Lyoto Machida barely held on to his light heavyweight championship belt over Shogun Rua in the main event of the Los Angeles attraction. Rua would finish Machida decisively in the rematch.

“UFC 120: Bisping vs. Akiyama” takes place the week prior to UFC 121 in London and will be televised via tape-delay on Spike TV.

Now this is a fight I will pay money to watch--- I think the inevitable matchup is going to be JDS and Velasquez for the title. The winner of that much should be the undisputed P4P champ and number 1 at heavy.

Velasquez is a technical striker with sick conditioning and a tested chin. Throw in the fact that he was a standout D1 wrestler, and won't get submitted via bullshit arm triangle after having an asthma attack and I think Lesnar is fucked.

Nice to see a UFC champ actually put the belt on the line so quickly.

Props to Brock.

agreed.  glad to see brock fight more often, he gets a little respect from me for doing so.

this is how all ufc champs should be; fight every 3-4 months.
I dont like twinks.

Yeah, 3.5 months is quick. How often would you have the champ defend the title? Every 2 months? Every month? Every single UFC?  ::)

3.5 months is quick by UFC standards, but if the champs were real men they would fight in < 2 month intervals.

Cant wait.

Cain is a legit threat.

Hopefully brock switches back to his normal stance for this one and tried to throw hands a bit.

Im hoping for a takedown and owning him on the ground , that would really make a big statement of how good brocks wrestling is.
