What are some of your favorites, SB?

Traditionally everyone is sold sapphire, ruby and emerald as the big three because historically these have always been emphasied as a serious investment and rarity.

In-fact some of the best looking stones are things like Tanzanite (Zoizite) - this comes from one place in the world so far and comes in huge sizes. In my business i trade alot of Tanzanite and have even had eye and loop clean 100 carat pcs. Tanzanite is often said to be the stone Sapphire wishes it was - as the color is insane in the right light and the stone is often free of any inclusions unlike sapphire. It is however a much softer stone.

I also like Green garnet or Tsavorite which is another beautiful stone and too me has far superior color to emerald.

These are still known as semi-precious stones but Tanzanite AAAA color retails for well over $500 per carat. Green garnet comes in smaller sizes and it is hard to find nice clarity piece, the price of this stone is often based on size and clarity of the piece.

Other stones which are being promoted big is red spinel right now, this is the same stone in Queen Elizabeth's crown jewel is not a ruby but a 361 carat red spinel.

Hmmm i don't think you have any clue what you are talking about once again. Rings and particularly certain gemstones rings are a store of value. Often the investment pays off big time e.g. think of jewellery with gold or platinum (well if you break the ring down then the value of gold has gone up huge in last 10 years). If you buy the right gemstone often you will see huge potential rewards with your investment.

I am involved in the gemstone industry with a side business and i have to say gemstones and diamonds as well as other precious metals are probably some of the best investments in the world.

Think of it this way, the way CB's keep printing money then i would rather own something easily transportable and a traditional store of value such as precious metals and gemstones than fiat currency. I would rather have gemstones which can be carried to other countries doing much better than owning assets which cant be sold or transported in a scenario where Country where assets are stored is facing a depression.

Certain gemstones have increased well over 1000% in real terms over 10 year period. Again you have to know what your doing or involved in the business to have the best results. But then again same goes for finance which is my main business.

As for paying for a ring, yes i would definitely pay top dollar for a ring as long as i can afford to do so. I am not going to spend on something i can't afford and is not within my budget. I don't have fondness for diamonds but i love gemstones. Certain gemstones are stunningly beautiful, a great investment, a great store of value and highly transportable - plus i love to see my lady wearing beautiful jewellery (that is an educated hard working girl who can appreciate the gift).

I know the value of Jewelry as I have family in the business.  They owned several Jewelry stores for nearly 100 years now.  Did you forget that the Diamond District only exists because of Jews?

Also, I myself have a very large diamond ring which I traded partially with cash to a friend for my 1959 Cadillac Coupe DeVille.  The value has certainly gone up, but I can`t help thinking I wish I kept the car instead.  :-\  I would have a hard time finding a buyer for the ring if I were to sell it.

Also, my grandmother had a Diamond ring that was around 90,000 dollars when my Grandfather gave it to her in 1950.  When she died in 2004, she left it to a Jewish charity and as far as I know they are still looking for a buyer.  They tried to auction it, but nobody met the reserve price.

Our rings were less than $600 each. Beware of anyone who wants you to spend big on a ring or other bling--particularly at the start of a relationship.  I consider that a serious red flag!

If you want to spend big, save that for your ten or twenty year anniversary.  Then the recipient will have earned it!  ;)

these two paid for it themselves for the most part, his parents might have chipped in a bit but I seriously doubt hers did...

40k screw that thats a down payment on a house...LMAO why not buy a house and just have a big party?

I will never spend 40k on a freaking wedding...

Bay those are beautiful, had no clue you were taken

Tony to me that is nuts, also nuts when women spend more than 5k on a dress, but that imo

Have a small ceremony, great honeymoon and invest the rest

WOW Bay they are beautiful, you are absolutely right wait for 10 or 20 years and spend some money after that.  So wise.

Also I agree with Adonis, this whole tradition just because society's norms make people conform to them like marriage and the expensive ring, you are foolish to just fall into that and the huge expensive ceremony, a whole industry is built on taking the fools money who do this.

Two years later they are divorced and financially screwed.

are there any stats on gay marriage vs hetro marriage ratio of how many divorce?  I would venture to say the gay men have much longer lasting and satisfactory relationships.

My Aunt's fav is tanzanite as well.

I don't think I've heard of spinel..just did a search..some beautiful stones.
[/quote]

I do love blue sapphire and red ruby but the color, size and clarity that can be achieved by Tanzanite has always been impressive to me.

Most people i met tend to love Tanzanite once they have owned a very nice color piece.
Here is some of my current TZ collection (color completely lost on this camera, and using 20mm gauge).

what is the point of all that, you cannot do anything with those stones except look at them and hold them, would rather use the money for something that would actually would be useful like a house or car.

hahaha yes yes...the next step in evolution is being gay  ;D lmao

are we going to become a species of asexual reproduction? oh wait thats right thats what we EVOLVED FROM!!!!  ;)

homosexuality has no rhyme of reason broham, its not the next step in evolution for it to be the next step it would have to be beneficial...what are the benefits?

Well in an earlier post i said i have a side business in gemstone and jewellery. This whole lot will be sold Monday as well as other sapphires and green garnet lots i have. I am not in the business of holding onto this much stock without any return.

Net gain after all costs will be probably be about 25%. Other pieces which are more spectacular are currently being put into jewellery which will be sold via my brothers jewellery shops in the UK.

I do however have bigger pieces in stock in the UK and a private collection of the very best pieces which i have collected in the last year. As i said these are viewed as investment and the prices i got the pieces at were near all time lows. Usually we hold onto the spectacular pieces until either an enquiry comes through where we can achieve much higher than 100% gain. In the end it tends to all get turned over with a year and half. The real collections that i guess always remain is the pieces that go too my girl and family as gifts and future investments.

We could have gotten diamond studded rings.  Neither of us were interested in that crap.  I secretly laugh at any man I see wearing lots of bling of any kind.  ::)

I am friendly witha  Jeweller/Diamond merchant.

i asked him one day what was the most expensive ring he sold. I expected to hear something like £30,000

He said £127,000. I near shit. Apparantly the stone itself cost something silly like £70,000.

This guy is a legitimate multi-millionaire though.
