Gastritis
« on: July 12, 2010, 12:48:10 PM »
I've been having a huge huge problem lately with gastritis. I mean its really ruined the past month or 2 for me. I went to the doctor for stomach pains (bloating, not being able to eat much, throwing up, etc) and got the egd done and they determined it was severe gastritis and put me on aciphex for about a month and said it'll get better, but it feels like its coming back. I started back taking the last 7 days or so worth of aciphex that i have because the stomach bloating and full feeling are coming back, but I was wondering what nutritional changes should i make?

My diet mostly consists of eggs, oatmeal, meat (turkey, hamburger, chicken, steak), fruit (blueberries, strawberries, grapes, bananas), spinach, almonds, peanut butter, lowfat milk, whole wheat bread, brown rice

I think i may be eating too many acidic foods (too much meat, eggs, milk......a usual meal for me is something like 2 burger patties, spinach, and one of the sides from above) so im going to try to cut milk out and eat mostly chicken breasts and see how that goes. Somebody said I should try adding yogurt to my diet.

Any help or advice at all is appreciated. I havn't been able to get any nutritional help from the doctors that I go to, they mostly focus on the medicine side of it. I'm f-ing tired of feeling weak and losing weight because I cant eat like I want to.

Well, 'itis' indicates it's an inflammation, so fish oil could help with that.   Do you know what the cause is?  Too much aspirin or something?  I'd limit the fatty meats and alcohol and stick with easily digestible foods. Yogurt sounds like a good idea (with live cultures).

I have no idea what the cause is. Thats why i posted the foods i eat because maybe some of those might cause it. I will try the fish oil though, I have some fish oil that I havnt taken yet. I dont take any pain relievers ever, no alcohol either. I will try the yogurt too.

I just thought somebody on here might have some advice diet related, since all i get from doctors is medicine related.

Thanks

Yes a bland diet devoid of fatty foods would be helpful. Things like ginger and spices like cumin, tumeric, sage, rosemary etc would be helpful as they have an abundance of anti inflammatory compounds like curcumin, rosmarinic acid.

Zinc carnosine is certainly a helpful supplement, i would suggest looking into it along with mastic gum perhaps. Also, find what the etiology or cause is if you can. Drugs? stress? alcoholism? all kinds of potential causes.

nicotine may be of help.

anything i post is not medical advice, solely meant for educational purposes. This disclaimer goes for all my posts from now on considering my position in my education. Im not a meatpie i realize how retarded that sounds but none the less.

good luck with it dude.
