As a person, Steinbrenner was somewhat pompous and at times displayed questionable character. A convicted felon who was banned from the game of baseball twice; a person who did some pretty shady shit back in the day.

In regards to baseball, Steinbrenner was a hall of famer. The reason baseball is what it is today.

Steinbrenner helped grow a sport which was lucky to draw 9000 fans a game in the 60's, to a multi billion dollar Juggernaut. His will to win and killer instinct forced other teams to get better.

Today is a sad day for the baseball.

It'a amazing that he could be such a dick to the people around him {especially in the 80's} but also do so much for charity without wanting attention.
