Liberals have long joked that Dick Cheney doesn't have a heart, and the former veep's latest medical setback might be hard for him to prove otherwise if checked for a pulse.

Cheney, who likely has end-stage heart disease, was fitted with a special pump last week to help his heart pump blood through the body. The left ventricular assist device (LVAD) is considered a last step before a full heart transplant.

"It's reserved for people who have end-stage heart failure, and advanced and heroic therapies have been tried, and after folks have optimized evidence-based and guideline-recommended drug therapies," said Dr. William Abraham, director of the division of cardiovascular medicine at Ohio State University. "Their heart conditions have progressed to a state where the mortality risk is very high and they turn to LVADs and transplants."

Cheney's doctors describe the operation as a success and say he is now recuperating.

But the device does have one almost creepy side effect. The former vice president will not have a pulse, according to Dr. Alan Stewart, director of the Aortic Surgery Program at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University Medical Center.

With no pulse, when that vampire is sleeping, people really will not know if he is alive or dead.

Ventricular assist device (VAD)
-------------------------------------------------------------------

content provided by Healthwise

A ventricular assist device (VAD), also known as a heart pump, is a mechanical device that helps pump blood from the heart to the rest of your body.

A left-ventricular assist device (LVAD), pulls blood from the left ventricle and pumps it to the aorta and the rest of the body. Other types of VADs pull blood from the right ventricle or both ventricles and pump it to the rest of the body. The heart still pumps some blood on its own. But the VAD helps the heart pump blood better.

A VAD can be implanted inside the body or worn outside the body. If it is implanted, surgery is done to place it in the chest area. The pump part of the VAD is placed in a small space in your upper abdomen. After the VAD has been implanted, your doctor will make another small incision in your side to connect the electrical wires that power the device.

The pump part of a VAD can be implanted, but the VAD battery and control system are worn outside the body. The battery pack and control system can be worn on a shoulder strap and belt.

Cheney did some evil shit to get rich, but he also believed it was about making America strong in the long run.  Because of him (and his puppet Dubya), we have long-term military base presence and mineral/oil dibbs in 2 new countries.  That keeps the dollar afloat and keeps oil in our piggy bank for 50 years from now.

That being said, I don't wish heart failure on anyone.  Many believed this was the case when the VP was nodding off in meetings, and the wheelchair at the unauguration ("back injury").

And while he'd move to the top of the transplant list, his vessels and lungs are probably a wreck too.  He likely wouldn't survive an operation.  He had his first heart attack at 37, and smoked afterwards.  He did some rotten things, and there are a lot of family of vets who wish him harm, but I can't do that.

Does the death count have to be more like Hitler?

Count up the bodies from 9/11 thru today. Not enough dead and maimed?

I have to disagree.  Its takes spine to do what he's been trying to do.

Just a quick question:

Why is Cheney still relevant to anything?

Veeps can still be relevant.  Gore did way more after office than in office.

At a cost of over 5 TRILLION do you think it was worth it?
At a cost of over 1.5 million innocent Iraqis do you think it was worth it?
At a cost of unknown Afghans murdered do you think it was worth it?
At a cost of DU poisoned Afghans, Iraqi and soldiers do you think it was worth it?
With both the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska having oil quantities in the BILLIONS of barrels would it have not been better to battle in your own back yard for oil and refrain from the exorbitant lies told to steal the resources of other nations?
At the cost of losing allies around the world was it worth it?
At a cost of over one trillion per year to have US bases in many countries is it worth it?
To now have angered many races, religions, nations around the world making the US a prime target for terrorist (for real this time) is/was it worth it?

There was a lot that should have been considered before the US went forward with the lies, attack, occupation and stealing of resources of other nations, which was not done for oil need, but to try and control the economies of other nations. This action exposed a whole hell of a lot about the history, character and honesty of america...all of which it is lacking and surely now the so called history books of america can be disregarded... better yet thrown out. Truth is the nation has been one that has operated on pure greed and excess and control at the expense of life, rights and certainly character. Now it sits in financial ruins, jobless, hated, vilified, desperate, clinging to the last threads of hope which are fast unraveling. Many now know the truth of what america was and is about and these attacks on innocent barely armed nations revealed all.

Cheney was just one of many who fulfilled the desires of the wealthy and accomplished their want of "I WANT IT ALL"... at what cost? After having done the dirty deeds for others what does he have to show for it? a failed heart?, relegated to a wheelchair? when death comes to claim him death will find that he is already spiritually dead. I guess the best part of all of this is now that those who want now have it all.... there is no need for him and he will be tossed to the trash heap like the rest. Maybe he should hope the next attack is fatal.

Some of you people thrive on hyperbole.   ::)  Cheney is a tough old man.  Did an oustanding job as Defense Secretary.  Good American.

You are such a simpleton, here is your EXACT quote:

"Great post! Other then Hitler, No one has caused more human DEATH and DESTRUCTION than Dick Cheney."

Is your mastery of the english language that bad, or are you just too stupid to realize what you typed meant?
