he is so humble, yet he knows he will most likely murder Matyushenko.

That is a future champ for sure. Plus a great attitude. Great future for a 23 yr old.

Never heard of the guy, never seen the guy fight but I watched this video on mute and its so rare to see this kind of composure or maturity from an MMA fighter. You dont even need to hear what he says and you can tell he's a humble intelligent person.

My first thoughts were why is this guy in MMA? MMA fans wont give this type of "persona" any fan fare, no matter how good he is, he's too boring for them.

No doubt about it-- he will be the champ at 205 one day. If he wins this fight he should have one more tune up and then he should fight whoever is left after the smoke clears between Shogun+Rashad- Machida+Rampage and whoever else. If he wins that fight, he should fight for the title.

The smoke never clears in the LHW division.  That belt is like a hot potato.

Jones has a ton of talent for sure. What sucks about him is that growing up he was a fucking snitch to anyone who would smoke weed/drink etc. He wanted to be a cop or some shit.

Do yourself a favor and try to find his fights on youtube or something.  He is dynamic and exciting.  Amazing talent.  That said, I think he more than has his hands full on Sunday.  I don't see him just walking through Matyushenko.  It's going to be a great test for him.

No, i don't see this either.  I have a weird feeling actually about that fight.  Like a huge upset is coming.

You guys are nuts-- If this fight makes it out of round 1, I will be very surprised.

Nobody at 205 has his wrestling or his reach. All he needs to do is get the fight to the ground and it will be over.

I rolled with (and got cushed by) Vlady many times when he was training out of R1 in El Segundo, CA. This was around 2002-2006 when Frank Trigg was still there. The guy is stupid strong. He has that kind of strength that you don't get in the gym lifting weights. When he is on his game and laying off the Vodka his ground game is world class. If he can clinch and get it to the ground it will be a long night for Jones. Though he's past his prime, Vlady is a very tough and durable mofo and has that Soviet era Eastern Bloc machine-like mentality. I have a feeling Valdy will win this due to experience. Either way, Jones' time will come and he seems destined for greatness. It's hard to believe he's only 23 yo. For their age he and Aldo are prodigies.

He said in an interview he was one of those kids that would tell on the people who would do drugs at school.  Tough dude, but really pointless main event, the janitor is a helluva wrestler, but he lacks the athleticism and explosiveness, and stand up for that matter.  Brutal step backwards for Jones.

this is why ufc needs a tournament/ grand prix per weight class imo. If guys handlers/dana wants to milk young talent on wasted shows , and at the same time NOT give them a shot a the top guys out there...throw them in a freaking grand prix (one match per show..not the old school 3 fight per night deal) style tourney that lasts year round and crown a grand prix champ per weight class at year end and give them a check for 100 grand or something like that...then every january bring in the new year grand prix champ BAD ASS per weight class vs the current champion for the belt.

Every UFC january card every year would be STACKED....grad prix champ vs undisputed champ from top to bottom every weight class that night..all title shots. Then start over the grand prix again..etc.

The way the ufc is set up now....just wasting talent imo.

that sh*t would be awesome....dana email me if you need help getting this sh*t figured out.

How is this a step backwards for Jones?  UFC obviously wanted to give him another stepping stone fight to see where he is at.  He won the fight as well.

I"m sure he'll get a top 5'er next.  Actually, i'd like to see him toss around Griffin a little.

Very impressive win. I like what the UFC is doing with him. They are taking their time and building him up. I would keep him fighting b level fighters for 3-4 more fights before putting him in there with top 5 talent.

Brutal step backwards in competition, he went from Brandon Vera to a little old Janitor.  Terrible match up and terrible main event, they couldve put someone tougher in there. The Vera fight was not intended to be a stepping stone fight, this one was.  Jones is good, but I don't really see why everyone is so suprised that he destroyed Vlady.  Even Griffin is an easy fight stylistically for him,  I'd like to see him fight the winner of lil Nog/Bader or Thiago Silva next.  That would be a true step up in competition.

Another stepping stone and then he should get a title shot.

Throwing him in against another 3 or 4 cans is going to hurt him, not help him.

He needs a a top 5 guy at 205 for his next fight and if he wins he should be thrown to the wolves.

Enough bullshit.

I'd like to see Thiago Silva next for Bones. If he gets past that, then we're talking Shogun/Machida/Rampage. I doubt he'd fight Rashad, since they are both part of Greg Jackson's camp.

Shogun is the only real threat I see for him.  Who knows if Bones could get the timing down.

Rampage?  laughable.
Rua?   Would be a slugfest.
Bader?  Would be a slugfest.

I just hope Bones doesn't get his nerves up too much about being the next big thing.  He did look awfully nervous last night.

I don't think Jon seemed that nervous at all last night. I think he appeared a little more nervous before Vera. I think he's fine in that regard.

As far as future matchups...let's not get to ahead of ourselves. Rampage a "laughable" opponent against Jones?  ::) I don't think so. Shogun is his only threat? What about Machida? Don't write him off just yet.  ;)

In Bones we're dealing with a guy who's 23 and only has 12 pro fights. He looks fantastic and I am a fan, but given the depth of the LHW division, he will likely lose one of his next few fights. MMA is like that to begin with...very tough to just run through a tough division.

Have you guys seen Phil Davis fight? A lot of the same beastly potential as Jones. And...he's another LHW.
