I'll have to disagree.  Gear is widely available in Thailand but it's not as easy as it was years ago to just walk into a Thai pharmacy and buy some gear.  Especially if you are a tourist.  Egypt is probably a lot like Turkey.  Very easy a while ago but now it's almost impossible unless you know someone who works in a pharmacy.  Things have changed a lot in the last 10 years.

If you go to those countries for gear you need to have a native buy it for you...they always jack up the prices for tourists

its unbeleivably easy to get gear in egypt, i was almost dragged into the chemists on numerous occasions whilest walking past,,,, u do have to be carefull of what you buy,, dont touch the sust, go straight for the cidoteston everytime.
