Need a new car.... Advices please
« on: July 21, 2010, 07:32:35 PM »
Cliffs will likely be best so...

Time to get a new car, now.

When the hell did tahoe/avalanche/Yukon become 50 grand???

At the end of the year I'd be much more inclined to buy a large expensive suv as I can use the major tax advantages.

Considering a large pickup as there are write-offs there as well, ie nissan Titan or dodge ram...

If I get a pickup now, much less inclined to buy an suv at years end, which I'd prefer.

Thoughts?

1.  I have kids, lots of stuff, and travel by car a considerable amount.
2.  I'm much much bigger than you.  ;D

I own a Titan and it is a huge improvement over the domestic sh*t trucks I owned in the past.  With that said Nissan is NOT on the same fit & finish level as Toyota (or Honda for that matter).  If you are shopping trucks (non-diesel) than you owe it to yourself to go check out the Toyota Tundra.  The 380hp 5.7 DOHC V8 is to die for.  With that said the 5.6 in my Titan is also an amazing motor.  The combo of a big displacement V8 with DOHC and 32v is the only way to go.  The American pushrod V8s are not in the same league.

The downside to any of the full size loaded up trucks/suvs with V8 power is that once you get done optioning them out with leather, luxury packages etc you are mid $40K-$50K easy.  This is a stupid price to pay for what is basically a tarted-up pickup truck.  Pricing on trucks has gotten f*cking out of hand in the past 5 or 6 years.  The next couple months are a good time to shop though as most dealers are very anxious to clear the lots of the 2010 models to make room for the 2011s which start rolling into many dealerships as early as Sept.

The full size Toyotas will depreciate the least and are likely to give you the best reliability and ease of ownership too.

There was a Editorial in Automobile magazine that mentioned the Yukon Hybrid, and the discounts for it. Plus, doesn't one get a tax credit for buying a hybrid, and incentives from gM? I would look into that if I were you.

One of my coworkers has a 2010 Ram 1500 Laramie and I gotta say its the nicest truck overall I have ever seen for style both inside and out and driving dynamics.  Its also got the coil spring suspension in the back so if its more for play than work that makes it a much nicer drive than your standard light duty pickup (its not a gimmick there is far less bed hop than you get with standard leaf springs).  As far as interiors go the Ford has some nicer trims and its a better choice for straight work but overall for a truck thats a daily driver not for work then the Ram is your best bet - plus you get the 5.7L Hemi  ;D

The Titan isn't on the same level as the other players in the light duty pickup segment and the tundra may be comparable to the chev (I would still take the silverado over it) but the ford and Doge blow it out of the water.

I'm about to get in the market myself here shortly. Getting a truck this time around. My brother (worked with nissan) let me take a Titan LE  Crew 4W loaded...puppy was nice (hard as hell on gas lol). He mentioned the 2011 where going up the HP 390 (on select models i'm sure). I liked the luxury feel of the Titan and plus it still was a full size truck..etc. It is my first choice...bastards are not cheap at all though.

I'm starting to like the new tundra's. This guy had a black crew cab ram at my gym that looked nice also.

My only problem is if/when I get the truck I'm going to have to lose my honda. Don't have any room where I stay. Wife will still have her honda though. Decisions, decisions.

The Yukon is my 1sr choice and there are indeed numerous incentives, but the timing is wrong, that is an end of the year purchase, basically when I have to have money to pay the govt saved, I can use a very nice chunk of it on a 60k yukon denali and then immediately writeoff 35k or so.. ;)

One thing I can tell you...I've been pricing, comparing and consulting with my brother (who worked sales) all those puppies you listed will be very high 30's to 50 easy after you load them up.

Makes no sense to buy in between to penny pinch on an SUV or Full size truck. Either go stock/base model with nothing added on (which makes no sense to me unless you are a painter or running a lawn care company) or go hard. I'm going to go in hard, so I plan on putting a good amount down so my payments won't be insane...right now I have $0/month payments on the honda lol.

Very nice but personally I prefer the new Taurus if we were talking about sedans, especially the SHO

Go with the Dodge Charger.  Good revamp of a classic muscle car.

Its getting redesigned for next year although they have yet to release anything but spy images of the new look.  I would take the challenger any day over the charger and when it gets the 6.4 it shouldn't get spanked so bad by the other 2 pony cars
