Either he`s lost some strength from a year ago,or his training partner here was helping quite a bit.

Is Derek Farnsworth the strongest pound for pound squater of all time? Someone told me he did close to 900 pounds at a weight well under 200 pounds.

Huh?You mean in bodybuilding circles?Shawn Frankl squatted 1060 at 220 and Chuck Vogelpohl squatted 1175 at 275.

The whole definition "pound for pound" doesn't even make sense, since regarding strength the bodyweight of the lifter is always taken into consideration. If we are talking about who has squatted most compared to his bodyweight then the strongest squatter in the lightest weightclass will win that title.

I thought I saw claims of 900 pounds at a bodyweight of 180-185.

Impressive to say the least, but Derek is 5 ft nothing and 180 lbs....

BTW...check out Kaz and Jim Quinn in the background of the Platz video...

Jesse was a personal friend of mine, it was shocking news when he passed.  Only thing I can say was he died doing what he loved most...

Derek Anthony is not that strong, but he holds a record himself - he has squatted down in front of every single man he's come across in the Blue Oyster bar.

he went for repetitions

He wasnt drug tested at the USPF seniors and he did fail three drug tests in his career. However,he is BY FAR the strongest 198 ever and 220 ever.I guarantee Farnsworth could not, under any circumstances, squat 900 at 198lbs to any kind of depth.

Very strong competitor for his size, but being a Lightweight does not give him a great advantage in the pro's against much heavier, bigger and more muscular competitors.

LOL.

Also breaking news: Albert Pujols hits baseballs farther than regular people, giving him the advantage as a baseball player.

pound-for-pound means shit in powerlifting. Obviously the smaller guys will win b/c the human body loses efficiency at taller heights and heavier weights

well put it this way at the 1994 uspf senior nats in greensbourgh nc i was in the 242 class he was in the 220s and we all had to pee in a cup everybody...,....so i dunno we always had to pee in a cup back then when i was competion on that level.  i dont know about any other year that i did not lift...   but in 1994  he was literally rite in front of me to go pee.....now who knows if they really tested it or not......thats always been a big debate on who they really tested and who they did not in those days.

Yeah, but he';s much heavier than Farnsworth....he competes at 200, I would guess 220-30 off season....he's got 40 lbs on Derek.

Jose would be doing 440-460 if he faced Derek....would be a great matchup

just to clarify a few things:

1. i never claimed to have squatted or was able to squat 900...  when i was 25 i squatted 765[ weighed like 190]  for a  single and it was videod..  no way could i do 900... just too heavy for my frame.
2. in the competition i opted to go up to 405 to make the event more entertaining.. ive done 405 for 25's and 30's in the past with no problem..  20 reps was enough to put me in the lead .. i had to save some energy for the bench which followed right after.
the event was to entertain the crowd and give us guys a chance to win some cash..  the first thing  we were told was not to get hurt.   the stage wasnt the most stable area for squatting or deadlifting .. very bouncy so  I def  held back and  big  ben  def had to be cautious squatting 600 lbs.

i'd love to see jose in the competition  hes an old friend and  we've competed against each other many times  as amatuers..
