520 competitors x $150 entry fee = $78,000 from the competitors alone. Now add the gate takings. Probably over $100,000. And the winners get a stupid trophy.

You have to hand it to these people who run the events.
Some will do anything for a pointless trophy or to tell their buddy they "compete".
Spend 2 grand on a cycle, $150 entry fee, all for what?  Where is the sense of accomplishment here?  No talent and you didn't even build your own physique.

I have more respect for the juggling geek, who spends hours on his craft, to win the praise of other juggling geeks. :D
Again, skill vs. no skill...why bother.  Almost like a Ms. America pageant.

Ms. America Pageant, the women tend to be on the smart side, with multiple degrees and pretty good jobs. They are on the "skilled" side. But, they tend to be "the girl next door", wifey types. Ms. USA, competes in the Miss Universe, and the women tend to models of very high caliber in terms of sex appeal and attractiveness. They of course get by on their looks, so they don't really need a job. Of course, their jobs include: working part time at Hooters, photo shoots, giving piano lessons to rich kids and blind, deaf mutes. And of course, helping other women see that they are not as beautiful as them---eliciting envy not unlike that which was seen in The Scarlet Letter.

Recently, Ms. Random State was at a place I frequent.  They were making a big deal because she was the best guy in all of X state.
It's amazing how far a woman can get on looks and a decent blowjob.
I reply, "Really...who the fuck is she?" haha, and what can she do.  Give Ms. X a busted face...nobody would give a shit about her.
Listen Sweety, you have a cute face and nice body...let's leave it at that.  I'm sure you'll get top dollar for it in the open market.

Why should someone pay to amateurs? Few get their pro-cards and possibility to make some money.

Same way in car sports; dude driving some micro-car won't get paid and only gets those stupid trophies. By winning he makes it possible for him to be F1-driver and get paid some decent money.

You as a juicer yourself should know that it's not like that.

STH is pretty much the only expensive stuff.

Test , Tren , Stano, Slin , T3 , ephedrine etc. are cheap. Even if you're using shitloads you can get a whole years supply for a lot less than 5 grand.

Maybe it's all different in the US because people have shitty connections and pay 10 dollar for 1cc of test..

contact jim manion.  it's his org in which he and his son are going to receive raises because of the bikini girls.  bikini division has increased amateur fees at least 20% across all shows.  john lindsey must operate 10-15 amateur shows in the USA. notice how he stays away from the pro division.  yes...it's amateur but they could give the winners 2500$ scholarship or something.  tell me ultimate mom brandy leaver couldnt use the money?

is there any reason why they claim amateur status?

is it to avoid stepping on the ifbb toes?

tax or legal purposes? anything beyond just be able to pocket all the money and say "well, its an amateur show.."

do other 'amateur' athletes, like olympic swimmers or gymnasts have to pay entry fees?

Amateur sucks.
One famous boxer won Olympic medals and later threw those to the river. He wanted to be a professional. And he became one. Succesful one.

npc national shows are equal national beauty shows...not REAL amateur athletics.  those girls usually get at least a 1500$ scholarship or something.  lindsey n manion took alotta receipts last weekend.  watch when ncp.org makes its' yr end report.  manion will receive a 10-12% raise above his current 178k salary + 17k.  i think lindsey is listed for-profit.

Thats where you dont get it...no one does it for the "stupid Trophy"...they do it for the pursuit, for the challenge, for the many opportunities the title presents, for the sake of competition and whatever personal goals they may have set for themselves.

The trophy is nothing more than a symbol of the achievment, as is the coveted "PRO CARD" that all the fools think should be made of solid gold.

Lindsay ios absolutely "for profit", as its his business...he offers no apologies for his hard work and longevity in the business of promotion.

As for Manion...it's his company...why should he not make all he can?

you would think as an athlete rep you'd be saying..."lets do something extra for the athletes.  that might be a good idea to add 1000$ pageant scholarship with the trophy." instead you are going off how great lindsey and manion are.  arent to you like an athlete rep?  i know for male pro bbers but you could put a word in for the others.

and manion's company is a non-profit which means his compensation has to be within reason of non-profits equal to his.  with receipts of 2.5M is he over compensating himself at 178K with yrly raises?   also....npo give...so a scholarship donation to national winners is well within reason.  again...lindsey can do what he wants...as noted.

As you already asked and answered your own question...I'm the AR for the Pro division, not the amateurs.  Amateurs are given the opportunity.  There are plenty (including myself), that have made a career of those opportunities...I won a grand total of $0 for winning the 00 USA...I turned that into hundreds of thousands over the next 10 years. Why hate on those who have made this a possibility?

I have no problem with Manion making whatever he makes, as he has worked hard for many years...same goes for Lindsay.  They're businessmen...and successful ones at that.

it's not what you did as an amateur...the road you can pave for the new generation. 2.5-2.7M going thru the books and the top 6 who get pro cards yrly cant get something extra...an amateur status reward so to speak of.  isnt that why you are a rep now or to keep yourself relevant which is ok since you have to pay your bills?  i dont care what manion, his son or lindsey do.  they are just good argument material on getbig.

Yeah, reminds me of those football players in college just just get a trophy for working so hard just to put ball in the end zone, with 95% of those players getting injured, whacked with no chance at ever making any money.

Much how do those football players get for playing in those championship games?  I think the schools get about $3 million each for that game?  Shouldnt they give me some money for playing except just a scholarship that thousands of students get.

Point is, you compete because you want to see how good you can get, and perhaps, got some contracts and sponsors.

As for the costs, the venue, insurance, people, hotels, judges, per diums, airfare, and much more gets very expensive.  You need to shell out this amount before you can expect anything back in return.

I gotta agree with Ron on this. I think MOST do it for gratification, some are delusional and want to make a living as a pro. Look at marathon runners and the alike. Why do we do it, pure satisfaction. Sure some may bitch about dieting and training but none the less it's what we enjoy. Hell I didn't run the Hartford to get a spiffy medal, I wanted to do it

The road I pave is for the current and future pros, not amateurs....giving them more when they get there is the incentive.  Amateurs dont need motivation, other than what to expect IF they can make the grade....just as I did

You have to know what your priorities are.  You can't put a price on the fame and glory of being Mr USA or Mr Universe or Mr Olympia.
A
