Super Geeks take over!
« on: August 17, 2010, 10:27:58 AM »
I tend to argue with some minor Hollywood movie makers about the actors that are cast in Super Hero films.

To date, no recent Hollywood Super Hero movie has used actors who resemble the character as the original cartoonist intended.

And now it appears that the opportunity to use someone who looked like the actual Super Hero has passed and Hollywood is now casting Super Hero Geeks.

Take a look at "KICK ASS" and the current "Scott Pilgrim Saves the World" (both of which I somewhat enjoyed) and you'll see that the geeks have taken over the Super Hero Silver Screen.

And then we got "Green Hornet" coming up with Seth Rogen as Greeny, whom I doubt has ever seen the inside of a gym. (I think that this movie will destroy Super Hero movies forever.)

And who's to blame for the geeks taking over??!

You guys are! At least some of you guys are.

A few (very few) of you GetBiggers guys and gals had the chance to get to La-La land and become the next Super-Hero, Super Hero; but due to lack of confidence, you failed to follow through when the iron was hot and the opportunity existed.

And now it  may be gone forever.

But the door is now open to you GetBig geeks and geek-etts. So ... don't let it pass ya by.

Get out there and show 'em what you don't got!

Actually, no need to blanket condemn all Getbiggers, stunt. I'll take the blame for this one. I've had 'become a superhero' on a yellow sticky on my computer for years now, and just could never commit. My bad. Hope we can still be friends. Yours, doc

The only problem is you do not just walk into an audition.  Especially anyone who has NO experience and knows nothing about the industry.  If it was that easy then everyone would do it.  Sure they sometimes have "open" auditions.  But, you still need to know when and where they are.  If you are going to be serious about that industry you need to get an agent.  you need ot start looking at the Hollywood Reporter, Dramalogue and Variety.  I am sure there are more out there now.  But, to just pack up to come to Hollywood and expect to make it is the worst thing to do.  It happens to 1 in 1,000,000 like that.  There is a reason why Hollywood does not use bodybuilders much.  They are stereotyped and they do not look like 99.99% of the population and that makes it hard for the general public to relate.  And in the majority of the cases they just can't act.  I have been in calls with bodybuilders many times and it is very funny.  Sure they may have the look but it ends there.  Chic is actually not bad.  He is intelligent and can form sentances and is appealing at least.  Bodybuilders will never make it in Hollywood.  There has been two huge success in Louie and Arnold and that is it.  Why do you think most big guys lose weight and size and start acting. It makes them more believable and mainstream appealing.  I would much rather see a guy who can act play a superhero than a muscle bound dork who sounds retarded and can barely move.

I hate you, Doc!

BTW, here is some Hollywood talk stuff you may be interested in.

"Devil" will not be scary but it will be suspenseful. Who in that elevator is the devil? (I think it's the Indian looking guy in the red(?) tie.) And I am sure that the devil will walk out of that elevator to ruin another day.

"The Last Exorcism" will be scary.

"Green Hornet" will be funny and possibly forcast the ending of Super Hero flicks.

"The Town" will give Ben Aflick a second chance at star-dumb!

"Tron" will be visually great and possibly win awards for "sound". You'll enjoy it better in 3D on an IMAX screen.

3D will possibly not last too much longer.

Cameron's working on Avartar-tar-two.

Cry baby movies will be in vogue.

Holly is dumb and stupid for making their own version of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" so close behind the Swedish version which was a very excellent flick. But it will still make money and make a star out of the actress playing the principle role. (I did not like 'The Girl Who Played With Fire"too very much though.

More to say, but getting off topic.

Hay, Big Dick .... If you are serious, there is probably no better man on this board who could promote or point you in the right direction of Hollywod super-star-dumb than Only Me himself.

He is a rapid animal when he sets his mind to promoting anything or anyone.

Actually 3D is getting even more popular.  Men in Black 3 is in 3D and start filming in Sept.  There are several other films to coming out in 3D. My friend is shooting another animated 3D movie set for release in 2012.  I personally don't like the 3D thing but who am I to say how to spend their dollars.

Lol this is the stupidest fucking thread ever. bodybuilders in hollywood is a joke. 95 percent of the population has no interest in looking at roid freaks. Don't mean natural looking physiques don't get noticed. Eric bana, Gerard butler, hugh jackman, mickey rourke,  and Christian bale are some of the biggest and best actors of the decade. Arnold was a novelty just like carrot top. I'm a fan of dudes having muscle but natural looking muscle, 300 was probaly the biggest action film of the decade so please don't pretend it was lacking. Bad actors killed action films not the other way around. The fact that the expendables was the biggest action film this year is a fucking joke. You group ten guys that can't act and you guys are loyal as fucking cher fans.

Just like the NBC exec that turned down both Survivor and American Idol because he said reality TV was a fad.  Or Steve Balmer that said there is no market for the iphone.

Scarlet, Simple answer ....

I stood in line to get a movie ticket and the three movie goers in front of me asked if they were showing a 3D movie on a flat screen.

And based on my own experience, once I get ten minutes into a movie, I could care less if it's in 3D or not.

Actually the only interesting 3D effect I saw recently was the ending credits of Despicable Me when those minions were pushing a ladder out over the heads of the audience and walking to the end of it. Great 3D effect and very funny, but most of the audience had already left the theater.

I'm probably wrong but I think 3D will be gone soon, but "Smell-O-Vision" will come in to take its place (maybe). Or maybe Cinerama ... the most visually exciting of all time.

And maybe even Cinemascope or the process in which "Shane" was filmed. (Vistavision?_

Here in LV they are selling tickets which allow you to sit in a seat that moves and reacts to whatever is being shown on screen. The earthquake scenes in '2012' were pretty damn impressive.

Most of the 3d films coming out in 2010 are  2d made to look 3d on computer or are garbage, most directors ain't got a clue about how to work with it. A sports movie is a good example. When filiming 3d football they still stick to overhead shots, when sideline shots have much better effect. for 100 years film has been shot on single plains, now there is depth as well which means things will change.

Ummm no.  The 3D revolution just started

Hong Kong filmmakers shoot 'first' 3D porn film

HONG KONG (AFP) – A group of Hong Kong filmmakers have started shooting what they claim will be the world's first 3D pornographic film, a report said Sunday.
The 3.2 million-US-dollar '3-D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy', set for release in May, has already generated interest in a host of Asian film markets, as well as Europe and the US, the Sunday Morning Post reported.
Loosely based on a piece of classical Chinese erotic literature, The Carnal Prayer Mat, the movie will star Japanese adult actresses Yukiko Suo and Saori Hara, the Post said.
The film chronicles the story of a young man who, after being introduced to the erotic world of a duke, realises his ex-wife is the love of his life and features "orgies, swinging and some very graphic sex scenes", the paper said.
Producer Stephen Shiu acknowledged that censors would likely block the movie's screening in mainland China, a key market for Hong Kong filmmakers.
"(But) we are almost closing deals with some markets including Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia and some pay TV channels in Hong Kong," Shiu told the paper.
Italian director Tinto Brass has announced he would produce a 3D remake of his 1979 erotic film Caligula, while Hustler plans to release a pornographic spoof of 3D science fiction film Avatar, the top-grossing movie of all time which has earned some 2.7 billion US dollars worldwide since its release.

the problem with super hero flicks these days is not the casting, but the portrayal of the characters - due to directors/writers not having a clue about the characters powers, past, driving forces etc

batman excluded, which really impressed by how it made a comic realistic and believable, and not totally fantasy like the marvel movies.

Asian porn tends to suck...and most of the women who watch it say, the men fail to"'measure up", and the women...either they sound like they don't want to be there, or that they re being raped,

I enough problems.  An friend I was promoting just was on Fox News.  He paddleboarded from Miami beach to new york.  He did the same but the entire length of California when I was helping him and then he rode a bike, ran, and then paddleboarded around Oahu a couple years ago.  About 6 years ago or so he ran 120 marathons in 120 days from LA to New York.  Later that night when he arrived he fought in a Thai Kickiboxing championship at Madison Square Gardens and won.  The guy has incredible endurance and he is almost 50.

Sounds like he just re-wrote the movie 'The Driver,' that '70's movie with Ryan O'Neal.
