Gallup: Disapproval of Obama Hits All-Time HighMonday, 16 Aug 2010
The percentage of Americans disapproving of how President Obama does his job hit an all-time high Monday, with half of all voters surveyed by the Gallup poll saying they disapprove.
The 50 percent mark was a jump from previous polls, which had showed Obama leveling off in the high 40s, according to Gallup’s daily tracking poll. The new high certainly doesn’t bode well for Democrats in the midterm elections. Though Obama isn’t running, he is the face of the party.
The news comes as Democrats weigh the fallout from President Obama’s remarks Friday night in support of the mosque being built near the site of the attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001. Forty-two percent told Gallup they approved of the president's job performance.
The daily tracking poll is a rolling average of surveys of registered voters over the last three days.
By contrast, Obama's highest ever approval rating came in late June of 2009, when 69 percent of voters said they approved of the job he was doing.
The Gallup numbers come as Democrats debate internally whether the president is a boon or burden on the campaign trail ahead of elections in which the party is expected to fare poorly.
The poll, conducted Aug. 13-15, has a 2.5 percent margin of error.
