Fox News takes heat for News Corporation's GOP donation
« on: August 18, 2010, 06:21:34 AM »
(CNN) - The Democratic National Committee called into question Fox News' objectivity Tuesday after it was reported that the cable network's parent company – News Corporation – recently donated $1 million to the Republican Governors Association.

"'Fair and Balanced' has been rendered utterly meaningless," Hari Sevugan, the DNC's national press secretary, said in a statement. "Any pretense that may have existed about the ties between Fox News and the Republican Party has been ripped violently away.

They should not be donating to any politicians of either party.

On one hand I can see how this seems a little shady but in all honesty I don't see how it really matters.

*Fox, like any business is free to donate/give money to anyone they want. They are not bound to the restrictions of federal organizations.

*As long as Fox reports the news fair and balanced, who cares where their money goes. When I say "report the news" I'm talking about "Hard News" this does not include editorial or opinion shows, every network has them and on Fox they are touted as "Opinion" not hard news.

*Fox's hard news coverage is by far the most neutral. No, Beck and Hanity do not fall in the "Hard News" category, they are op/ed.

I don't believe it.  Someone who actually understands the difference between news and opinion shows.   :)  I've been making this point since Obama tried to censor Fox News.

And I agree about the money.

In addition, the subsidiary is not the parent.  They likely have different boards, officers, etc.  Pretty large leap from donation by the parent to control/influence of news shows by the subsidiary.

"A CNN review of financial contributions made by media corporations showed that the parent companies of CNN, ABC, CBS and NBC have all made at least six-figure contributions to political parties and candidates. But none of them have given one organization so much money relative to its equivalent association on the other side of the aisle."

nice!

so the other stations are 'fair and balanced' in their donations, but FOX is pretty one sided.

That's right, this is "The Summer of Recovery"  Earlier today I could've sworn there was a big parade coming down my street in celebration of Obama's genius but I was mistaken...all it was was the sound of the economy crashing and burning harder than before...well, that and the ice cream man.
