How Essential Are Vegtables?

I've lost about 15 lbs in a month and a half with my new diet.

It has no vegtables.  Are they necessary?

I am not a nutritionist, so it would be difficult for me to answer whether or not they serve a specific purpose for bodybuilding.

What I can say is that veggies are healthy for you. Many benefits, even if its not for bodybuilding. I include veggies in practically every mean. Weightlifting is all about health, or should be. With that in mind, why wouldn't you include veggies in your diet?  :-\ :-\

I've often wondered this as well. I hate vegetables and almost never eat them - maybe a bit of broccoli or green beans here and there but that's pretty much about it.

I may be completely missing the point here, but I've never really seen their benefits when it comes to bodybuilding - I know they're healthy and all that, packed with vitamins and minerals, but I can get those from a multivitamin/mineral tablet washed down with my water whenever I eat my chicken and rice or steak.

You need the fibre and the vitamins and minerals they pack.

The brighter coloured berries in summer help, the orange and yellows of some of the root vegetables, the leafy greens. I started typing up the scientific names and specific uses but I cant be arsed. The info is available online if you're interested.

My bro's mates are all bodybuilders and I've been watching them since I was tiny.

Like anything, its all fine when you're young and your body does everything at high speed, effortlessly while you party your arse off with little sleep. When things slow down and the injuries start catching up you need to have covered as many bases as you can.

These guys are popping vitamins and glucosamine sulphate like its going out of style. They also creak like houses when they get up from chairs.

Some of the natural guys max out on vegies and berries in summer, and supplement antioxidants in winter. They crack a handful of almonds and walnuts and eat them on the spot for snacks. The journey taken by the ready packaged stuff has oxidised all the good oils, they reckon.

As usual there are some smug bastards that eat what they like, drink and treat their bodies like crap and still look ripped. Strong genetics is a lottery.

One of the guys has developed allergies and has gone gluten free, but then his girlfriend drives him nuts, so who knows. An Italian who cant eat bread, pizza or pasta anymore............

It's the one thing about being a BB fan that bugs me. When I hear of guys having heart attacks and bypasses in their late 30's, early 40's and other serious gizzard problems I wonder if its worth it.

veggies are the natural source for minerals and vitamins and also some fiber

They also contain carotenoids which protect the body from developing certain types of cancer. As you get older that becomes a lot more important for health.

when you drastically change your diet to cut calories by removing those essential vitamins you'll eventually notice that you can become sick pretty easily and take more time to recover.  You can go some time without noticing but evenutally it will catch up to you.  Just take a multi-vitamin and you should be fine.
