TRENTON, N.J. (1010 WINS/ AP) – Gov. Chris Christie will be kicking off a series of town halls Tuesday to unveil his reform agenda after hitting up a number of morning shows where he discussed plenty of weighty issues.
The conversation on “Imus In The Morning” took an awkward turn when host Don Imus called the Republican fat.
“You look like you lost a lot of weight, did you?” Imus asked.
“I have,” Christie answered. “I got more to lose.”
Christie has admitted once tipping the scales at 550 pounds and says he is now on a diet and even has a personal trainer. The renewed effort to get in shape had Imus questioning whether the Garden State governor was looking to run for the White House.
“No, come on look at me,” Christie exclaimed. “Me for president? Come on. Seriously, no way.”
“It’s just not what I want to do and I love this job,” Christie said. “I’m from New Jersey, this is perfect for me. I don’t have to leave home, it’s great.”
The governor also appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, where he said his agenda will include making “serious reforms for current and former retirees.”
The governor will head to Wayne for the first in a series of town halls. Christie’s office says he will listen and discuss the challenges faced by the state and outline his reform agenda for the coming weeks and months.
Aides say he the reform agenda will focus on ethics laws, conflicts of interest, public pensions and the number of public salaries a person can earn.
In a new video posted on the governor’s website, Christie says he is “not going to back off what I promised to do.”
