From your own article:

And third, and most importantly, without the huge fraud perpetrated by AIG, the mortgage bubble could have never grown as large as it did. Yes, other factors contributed, like the role of Fannie and Freddie in particular. But the key to enabling the huge global growth in credit during the last decade can be tied directly to AIG's sale of credit default swaps without collateral. That was the barn door. And it was left open for nearly a decade.

How do youy blame that only on GWB?

yep - I was hoping you would make it far enough to see that quote

I always said Fannie/Freddie played a role but they didn't cause the problem

I've also said many times that I give Clinton as much if not more blame than Bush.   The deregulation of financial markets are what caused this problem to occur

Ok, so where are the Republicans mainly to blame for this?

I blame the deregulation of banking and commodity/derivatives and Clinton as well as both Dems and Repubs are to blame

I've never solely blamed Bush or the Repubs for this mess

I don't think Bush has much, if anything to do with it

I definitely think Greenspan is to blame for keeping rates so low and I'd like to blame him for lack of oversight though I'm not sure what authority he had to do anything regarding the swaps and unregulated derative market

I've said that many many times

Straw - I saw a show the other night about Madoff.  Some lady said she thought things were a little off with him and she said she called the SEC three seperate times to make sure he was legitimate.

The lady said the SEC told her each time everything was fine and that he has been vetted etc.

Madoff himself said he was shocked that the SEC did not catch his scam, even after they went through the books.

Harry Markoplis said the same thing that we went to the SEC in 2000 about Madoff and they did nothing.

The issue is institutional incompetence, lax oversight, not enfrocing existing rules, and just piss poor people staffing these agencies not doing their job.

I blame Bush for Cox at the SEC.  That was a disaster and he was a patsie.

"Does anyone else find it infuriating and hypocritical that Obama and his staff of spineless chumps want freedom of speech to take a backseat to the demands of Islamist extremism because America doesn’t want to offend Muslims, yet the Ground Zero Mosque which is 100 times more offensive, outrageous and incendiary to AMERICANS than burning some pieces of paper is defended tooth and nail? "

Nice blog GW, I especially like the above point.  Completely upsetting.

Obama is a freaking joke.  His supporters are even worse IMHO.

Needless to say, how a Harvard Law Grad does not see the utter stupidty of his action lately speaks volumes.
