I also think it's way past time we slow the immigration down.  I don't think that's a bragging right Arnold, I think it's a failure of our government.  If the nations of Europe on average have a stricter immigration policy, then they're smarter than us in that regard.

I personally don't believe it's advantageous to the positive progress of 3rd world countries when the west's policy is to allow all of the best people to leave those places.  Who the hell's going to want the shitholes of the world changed when everyone that can leave them does, when everyone that hates what's happening in their country leaves instead of staying, well...  Everytime someone bails from a shithole, that tilts it one more for the scumbags there.

It's not a bragging right simply because they come here but because of the reason they come here. They come here because the opportunity is greater, many time because where they're coming from refuses to allow opportunity.

More over, it's not really "bragging" IMO, it's simply stating fact. Regardless of being an ass or a big fat jerk, with all things in life there is always one thing that is best, that doesn't make that "one thing" bad. One country is always best, there's always been one country that is superior, that is best. we can argue and disagree about which country that is and that's fine but there is still one that is best...I believe in this case that one is America.

all you pointed out was that we have a policy that lets more people in than anyone else.  that doesn't really say anything.  Not to mention America land wise is probably bigger than every other western nation combined lol...  I love America, but using immigration to prove we're just flat out better than everyone else on the planet is a little silly.  I didn't say we were not the best.  To me we'll always be the best country to live.  I was born here and grew up here, I don't want to live anywhere else.  I don't need to tell everyone else on earth that we're better to believe America is a great.  might as well be saying, I hope the rest of the world does well, just don't do as good as we have.  lame...

To be 100% honest, there are some things I love about our culture and other things I don't.....I have to say out of the 26 countries I've visited, I prefer it overall.  We just take a shitload of stuff for granted here.  Even small things like freakin' ice in my drink at a restaurant...hello europe...

But some things, I prefer europe's attitude......ie: tolerance of drinking socially almost anywhere/anytime, leisurely meals instead of choking down a burger at 65 mph, europeans tended to view quality of life as to how much leisure time you could get, whereas Americans want to work themselves into an early grave.......european cities were nice to walk around in without worrying very much about street crime as much as here, public transportation was a great thing, just not feasible here on a large scale.....there are other things, but you get the point.

Superior is a little tough to call, but I certainly prefer it.

I think so.  I made this statement during a discussion this weekend and my ultra-liberal friend was breathing fire before I went down the list of atrocities against women condoned by many other cultures.  I told her to try being a woman in Iran, India, or any number of Asian countries and see how much she likes it.

It's a little arrogant to have this opinion, but my view is based on the system, not the people.  Our system of government, our laws, our branches of government are superior to any other culture in the world.  It's the people who get in and screw things up.

If you step back and look at what we offer, it's unmatched:  freedom of speech, the press, religion, expression, due process, free lawyers, the right to a jury, the appellate system, the legislative process, checks and balances, anti-discrimination laws, the welfare system, anti-patient dumping laws (meaning if you show up at the ER with an emergency medical condition they have to treat you), protection of incapacitated people, property ownership, the free market, the educational opportunities, professional opportunities, leisure activities, sports, strong defense, solid infrastructure, fire and law enforcement, charitable entities, foreign aid for countries that suffer disasters, and the list goes on.

All of this isn't necessarily "culture," but it's all related IMO.

Bum - you forgot to mention our culture allows you to indulge in your weird fascination with capital punishment

[...]IMO.

And thank God it's just an opinion.

By the way, a "culture", and I use quotes because I have no idea what you're referring to, that stockpiles enough nuclear weapons to blow up the world 600 times over is not "superior" in anything. It's actually the other way around: It makes us inferior.

If anything it shows a level of contempt for the human species and human life never seen before in the history of the world.

MY opinion.

Having stockpiles of weapons doesn't make the U.S.superior, I agree 100%. We have stock piles of weapons because we are hated for being the people we are and having a stockpile of weapons is a necessity to keeping us alive.

No.  People flock to the US because they don't want to get bombed or shot by the US military.  The US is the eye of the storm, a storm created by the US.

I kid I kid!

arrogance isn't pride.  I'm proud of America and I don't need to publically declare superiority over "all others" to have that be so.  There are nations other than us that I doing just fine and we should be glad of that instead of pounding our chest and letting them know we're better than them. What's the point of that?  I thought that's what we wanted for the world?  But at the same time it's important to maintain some sort of sense of superiority over them?  Also stupidity is not a condition of pride imo; the people that feel it's unpatriotic to be critical of America are idiots, it's our duty as citizens to be critical--failure to do so is the quickest way for the people to change things for the worse.

Hey Norway, glad you guys are doing ok and all but just wanted to let you know, we're better than you!!!  na na nuh na na!!!!  Lame....

(Jag, Canada doesn't count, you guys do suck!!!  JK ;D )

That last sentence just got the biggest bellylaugh out of me.  ;D

Sorry to bust your bubble billy, but when it comes to entertainment, the US mimics everyone else.
There hasn't been an original idea in Hollywood in ages. Alot of our more popular TV shows were modelled after British ones. Sorry, hate to say it, but it's true. As for fashion... we only have to look to Europe to know who mimicks who.

As for sports... where do you think American football came from?  or American baseball? ::)

BTW: Just because something is copied or mimicked, doesn't necessarily make it great.
Just because something is dominant also doesn't make it great. Greatness is what makes it great!

Speaking of entertainment and sports, the greatest actors and actresses in the world are in the U.S., except for two of my favorites (Sean Connery and Nicole Kidman).  The best athletes in the world are in the United States.  The only major sport we don't dominate is soccer, and that's only because our best athletes don't play soccer.

And nothing beats attending a live sporting event.  Another one of the pleasures of being an American.   :)

Ever heard of Canada? It's that large vast land mass north of the USA, where civil rights are given more than mere lip service, and whose citizens for the most part (present company excepted) quietly go about their lives politely smiling and humoring those with a false sense of superiority.

Then there is Switzerland. Ever heard of Switzerland?

ps: Perhaps you've never heard of it because you are a product of US education.  ;)

Great documentary you might want to see: "Waiting For Superman"

Oh please, you clowns don't even have freedom of speech.  Your shithole country has nothing to offer - nothing in science, nothing in art, nothing in humanities, absolutely nothing.  Probably why your douchebag ass spends so much time on here posting crazy CT shit.

I heard he is swimming in money because he asked for Priceline stock as part of his compensation.  Never verified it.

But he was the man back in the day.  A poor man's James Bond when it came to the ladies.   :)

I suppose that Montréal Canadiens hockey game doesn't count either. ...or the Raptor game... *sigh*

He did take the stock deal which I think was offered by priceline at the time.
