I have absolutely no idea how to respond to that, other than to say shh.... let's keep that a secret. lol
I like Shatner, even if he isn't exactly the best actor out there.  I know there were some big controveries from the star trek set and some after that, but hell, not anything worse than we usually see out of Holywood.

What makes America great?

*Our history, although short lived in terms of much of the world, our history is a story very unique unto its own.

*Our government, a system of governing that was set up to be ruled by the people, the people are over the government, not the other way around. Although I freely admit, this is becoming more and more threatened every day and has been for some time.

*Our charitable nature. No country on earth gives as much as the U.S. And I'm talking about what the citizens do, not the government.

*Our diversity, no country on earth has such a diverse population, which in turn, has once again given us a culture unique to the world.

*Cliche to say but we are a country of unlimited opportunity, there is no ceiling, there is not cap and the door is wide open for that opportunity for anyone who wants to take a stab at it.

*Innovation, I'm sorry, it is very hard to argue against this, what has America brought to the world?

those are for sure some of the things that make us great.  I'm not sure many of those people would want their achievements to be used in a claim of national superiority over everyone else in the world.

Should say, we didn't invent the automobile.  The first gas powered auto was invented by Karl Benz.  But like you said, there's more you can add to that list easy.

Liar, liar, pants on fire... you're not kidding at all!  ;)
What we see here folks is truth... disguised as humour.

Yes, I am kidding, "genius."  You claim to have a 160 IQ, and you can't see I'm kidding.    ::)

People from all over the world, even Canada, flock to the US for the many opportunities and freedoms the US has to offer them which they can't get in their previous country of residence.

There is no freedom of speech and no freedom of religion in Canada.  A Christian preacher can get in trouble with the law simply for stating that homosexuality is a sin according to the Bible.

A Canadian born American psychiatrist I know told me that his colleagues, family and friends criticized him for migrating to the US.  He even took a pay cut by doing that.  But he knew that the career and financial opportunities the US had to offer him would pay off in the end.  And they did.  He now is wealthier than he ever would have been in Canada, and happier with his career than he ever would have been in Canada.

BTW, Canada is USA's mentally retarded, little brother.  And now I am really not kidding.

What makes America great?

This is a clear example of our superiority:

OUR PEOPLE:

OUR HISTORY:

OUR MUSIC:

It all balances out in the end. Underlining the successes and ignoring the epic historic failures doesn't help you point (or opinion).

Adios.

Hahaha, this thread reads like a who's who of American-hating socialists.

They're practically climaxing in their pants in this thread.

Finally realized whose gimmick Slapper is, though. Can't believe I never noticed before.

so unless you believe our "culture" (all 200 years of it) is superior to every other culure on the planet then you're an America hating socialist?

the american hating part is lame enough but how did you roll socialist into it?

No one implied America was beyond mistakes, as every country on earth throughout history, America is made up of human beings, human beings that make mistakes. that doesn't take away from the positive aspects. Sure, there's a balance, but IMO the good far outweighs the bad.

How did I know American culture? By simply not agreeing that it is the most superior?
Or by pointing out that alot of the things Americans assume are American originals are simply knock-offs from other countries. Is that your definition of knocking America? because I believe Native North American culture to be the most superior culture. Does that mean I'm knocking Chinese culture? Does that mean I'm knocking African culture. To not slavishly adore a certain culture is to knock it?

Mental masturbation is jerking yourself off with jingoism.

LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO---- This genius with the 160 IQ doesn't know what the word culture means. I wonder if jobs or income opportunities are related to culture. Hmmmmmmmmmmm....... I wonder......

cul·ture (klchr)
n.
1.
a. The totality of socially transmitted behavior patterns, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all other products of human work and thought.
b. These patterns, traits, and products considered as the expression of a particular period, class, community, or population: Edwardian culture; Japanese culture; the culture of poverty.
c. These patterns, traits, and products considered with respect to a particular category, such as a field, subject, or mode of expression: religious culture in the Middle Ages; musical culture; oral culture.
d. The predominating attitudes and behavior that characterize the functioning of a group or organization.
a. Development of the intellect through training or education.
b. Enlightenment resulting from such training or education.

Civilization is also a synonym for culture. Do you know what the word civilization means?

I think so.  I made this statement during a discussion this weekend and my ultra-liberal friend was breathing fire before I went down the list of atrocities against women condoned by many other cultures.  I told her to try being a woman in Iran, India, or any number of Asian countries and see how much she likes it.

It's a little arrogant to have this opinion, but my view is based on the system, not the people.  Our system of government, our laws, our branches of government are superior to any other culture in the world.  It's the people who get in and screw things up.

If you step back and look at what we offer, it's unmatched:  freedom of speech, the press, religion, expression, due process, free lawyers, the right to a jury, the appellate system, the legislative process, checks and balances, anti-discrimination laws, the welfare system, anti-patient dumping laws (meaning if you show up at the ER with an emergency medical condition they have to treat you), protection of incapacitated people, property ownership, the free market, the educational opportunities, professional opportunities, leisure activities, sports, strong defense, solid infrastructure, fire and law enforcement, charitable entities, foreign aid for countries that suffer disasters, and the list goes on.

All of this isn't necessarily "culture," but it's all related IMO.

I think our system of government is great and our Constitution is great.  However, its not without its serious flaws.  Is it the best?  I really don't know, I don't know enough detail about other country's governments to say for certain.
