Gluten Intolerance
« on: September 15, 2010, 01:52:12 PM »
In my long absence from the GetBig forums, I've been thinking about the gluten-free diet.

Maybe it's me - I have a shitty memory, after all - but did this whole concept more or less come out of the blue?  It seems like everyone and their mom today can't eat gluten, but as little as perhaps five years ago I couldn't even tell you what the shit gluten was.

What I think is this:  gluten intolerance is a real, but relatively rare condition. So it's recent explosion in popularity means that people are being psychosomatic about having it.  Dare I say that being "gluten-free" is mostly a dieting fad?

I don't know, most bodybuilders seem to love Gluteman. A quick suckie-fuckie hand job with private posing and lotion and it's contact time with an east indian ghost writer and a leased Escalade.

"gluten free" oh brother.  ::)

People have become so lazy and bored that they've started inventing new "illnesses" to make themselves feel unique and special.

Sometimes when my grandfather's brain starts to falter, he'll tell stories about "the war."  The one he still has nightmares about almost daily is the time when, while struggling for breath with a bullet-caused collapsed lung, his best friend bled to death before they could get his bleeding stopped.

Right when he gets to the part where he recalls that his friend's last words were "I was going to ask Alice to marry me when I get home...," I'm going to cut him off and say, "you know, I think I'm gluten intolerant.  I get a little gassy when I eat wheat."

Fucking Americans are so fat and weak that they have to bitch about having so much food available to them that they have to bitch when one type of food might give them a bit of a "sour stomach."

I was actually going to post the same thread. I've had some stomach issues lately. Could be to a number of things....But I tried staying away from wheat, rye, and barley for my carbs and have had damn near zero problems. I don't necessarily know if it was a gluten thing, or just the fact I have been completely saying "screw it" in terms of eating clean lately, but it's helped immensely. Been getting all my carbs lately through fruits and vegetables and I am leaning out like crazy, my stomach swelling has stopped, and my stomach is dropping in size fast.

Yup same here! Ditched all carbs except fruit veggies and what comes naturally in cheeese (and some ice cream here and there) and i look loads better. Amazing difference. I had a really REALLY bad gas problem for a few weeks straight and that was the catalyst along with wanting to try a keto diet. My body really hates carbs, bread pasta brown rice even. Fat and protein and occasional ice cream, fruits and veggies for the win!

Me too!!  I was at home, watching my buddy have his period, and I had a little tummy ache (a case of the bubble guts...).  I'm really special and unique because I get gas on occasion.

Yeah I had some chicken cutlet curry for the first time in about two weeks last night and it tore me up for a bit. Was sort of baffled by it really (since for a few months I could handle anything food wise), and I'm currently eating a spinach salad with cut up grilled pork, raspberries, pineapple, peppers, and an apple slice to get back on track again. Carbs with gluten are a hell of a lot more fun though.

I have also noticed I rarely have to use the restroom, besides peeing of course, now. And when I do its barely anything, and I am definitely not constipated. I think my body just isn't wasting anywhere near as much as I was before. Also I had to drop like 3-4 cups of coffee to get rolling but now I don't even feel like I need one cup.

Are you freakin drunk?  I have an aunt convinced she is "gluten intolerant" and the horrendous deserts she brings to family things are like eating cardboard.  And she made excellent stuff before this crap.

Unfortunately not drunk ;D. I don't eat deserts or desserts for the most part, but I'll take your word for it. Ask her to bring the desserts she made before and a gluten free dessert. It's a win win

There's no doubt that you lean out quicker on a gluten free diet, but I just think there's a lot of people pretending about actually being confined to it.  I'm glad I'm not the only one.  I just think it's funny how much gluten-free people talk about how they're gluten-free.  What's the point of bragging about how fucked up your digestive tract is that you can't eat half the food under the sun?  I just typically respond that I like being able to eat what I want.
