Catty Carla Bruni lifts lid on Michelle Obama's 'hellish' job ( Michelle hates her job!)
dailymail.co.uk ^ | Wednesday September 16, 2010 | Peter Allen and Michael Seamark

Michelle Obama thinks being America’s First Lady is ‘hell’, Carla Bruni reveals today in a wildly indiscreet new book.

Miss Bruni reveals that Mrs Obama replied when asked about her position as the U.S. president’s wife: ‘Don’t ask! It’s hell. I can’t stand it!’

Details of the private conversation, which took place at the White House during an official visit by Nicolas Sarkozy last March, emerged in Carla And The Ambitious, a book written in collaboration with Miss Bruni.

What was her quote....something along the lines of "I'm finally proud to be an American?"  That was absolutely the end of her for me.....

Like husband, like wife. The NYTimes reported a few weeks ago that Obama hates being Commander in Chief.

These two seem to hate a lot of things that come with being in that position of power. Good to know this country lies in the hands of people who clearly don't want to do their job.

Drudge is speculating that Bruni is getting back at MO for this.

A cat fight between these two would be a riot.

Barack and Michelle Obama decline dinner with the SarkozysCharles Bremner in Paris The Obamas turn up in Paris this evening, but have declined a dinner invitation from the couple next door: the Sarkozys.

President Obama’s reluctance to spend more than minimum time with the French leader on his visit for the D-Day anniversary has come as an embarrassment to the Elysée Palace.

America’s First Family will not be dining with President Sarkozy and his wife, Carla Bruni, even though they are staying at the residence of the US Ambassador, yards from the Elysée apartments where the Sarkozys spend their weekends.

Mr Sarkozy’s staff were trying yesterday to arrange another private moment between the couples. Mr Obama is due to fly back to Washington tomorrow night or on Sunday.

Mr Sarkozy’s dream date would be dinner somewhere spectacular such as the Jules Verne, an Alain Ducasse restaurant on the Eiffel Tower. The Obamas were reported on French celebrity websites to be planning a meal there.

A glamorous joint outing might be compared with the ones that President de Gaulle undertook with John and Jackie Kennedy in 1961. On that trip, Mrs Kennedy was such a hit that JFK presented himself as “the man who accompanied Jackie Kennedy to Paris”.

Failure to socialise with the Obamas will add to mockery that has greeted Mr Sarkozy’s attempts to stage the 65th anniversary of D-Day as a “Barack and Sarko show”. The media and Opposition have mocked Mr Sarkozy over Mr Obama’s coolness towards him, which is only partly due to his handling of the Normandy commemoration.

Mr Sarkozy has been pilloried in France for his failure to invite the Queen to the events. “The palace is fearing a snub,” Le Parisien newspaper said yesterday after the news emerged of the Obamas’ plans to keep themselves to themselves.

Yesterday the popular comedian Nicolas Canteloup did an impression of Mr Sarkozy worrying that he had “only two days to become tall, handsome and elegant”. The French leader is 5½ inches shorter than Michelle Obama.

The French were also piqued after the White House said that it was working on an invitation to Normandy for the Royal Family. Face was saved when the Prince of Wales agreed to attend with Gordon Brown. “Sarkozy has pulled off a double hit: insulting Queen Elizabeth and exasperating Obama,” the weekly Canard Enchaîné said on Wednesday.

French worries about being snubbed were matched in Germany, where media and politicians are convinced that the brevity of Mr Obama’s trip there and a decision to avoid Berlin demonstrated his disapproval of Angela Merkel, the Chancellor. Mr Obama was due in Germany last night for a visit to Dresden and the Buchenwald death camp.

Mr Obama’s irritation with his French counterpart began when Mr Sarkozy tried to grab the limelight at the G20 summit in London in April and talked condescendingly of the US President in private. Mr Sarkozy told colleagues that he found Mr Obama to be inexperienced and unbriefed, especially on climate change. Mr Obama hit back last month, telling a visiting French minister: “Please tell Nicolas that I shall do my homework, and in two months I’ll know all about climate change.”

The leaders will have lunch in Caen tomorrow while their wives meet near by. They will then all attend the ceremony at the US cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, above Omaha Beach.

Philippe Duron, the Mayor of Caen, has minted a slogan for his town in honour of Mr Obama: “Yes we Caen!”

White House, French Embassy deny report that Michelle Obama told Carla Bruni life as First Lady is 'hell'*
September 16, 2010 8:54 AM

ABC News' Jake Tapper reports:

________________________ ________________________ _________

The White House Thursday afternoon denied an account in a new biography of French First Lady Carla Bruni claiming that U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama told Bruni that life in the White House is “hell.”

“Don’t ask! It’s hell. I can’t stand it!” the biography has Michelle Obama telling Bruni after being asked about life as the wife of the president during a Sarkozy family visit to the White House in March.

A spokeswoman for First Lady Obama, Catherine McCormick-Lelyveld, tells ABC News “the First Lady never said that.”

The account, first reported by London’s Daily Mail, appears in a new book “Carla And The Ambitious,” written by French journalists Michael Darmon and Yves Derai in cooperation with Ms. Bruni.

Emmanuel Lenain, a spokesman for the French Embassy to the US, said, “Mrs. Bruni-Sarkozy distances herself completely from the content of the book ‘Carla and the Ambitious’, which was not authorized and the authors alone are responsible for its contents. The words attributed to the First Lady of the United States were never said.”

European media reported that the biography was authorized and Ms. Bruni participcated in its writing. When asked about that, Monsieur Lenain told ABC News, "I don't have all the details, I'll have to get back to you."

Bruni book author stands by Michelle Obama anecdote

PARIS (AFP) – The author of a book on Carla Bruni-Sarkozy on Friday stood by his account of US First Lady Michelle Obama complaining about life in the White House, but admitted she was probably joking.

Both the White House and the French embassy in Washington firmly denied Thursday that Obama had told Bruni that she found life as first lady to be "hell", as recounted in the biography "Carla and the Ambitious".

But journalist Yves Derai, co-author of the book with Michael Darmon, told AFP that the pair stood by their account of the March 31 dinner at which the two first ladies allegedly had the exchange.

"We maintain this account but in terms of interpretation I think the Americans are overanalysing this. It was an exchange that was in a jokey tone, not serious. It was an informal dinner, relaxed," Derai said.

"I won't reveal my sources, of course."

Obama's reported comments stirred a minor media storm in Washington after the news website The Drudgereport linked to a story in the British tabloid The Daily Mail that focused on the alleged exchange.

The French embassy announced that Bruni-Sarkozy distanced herself from the account and that Obama had not used the phrase attributed to her. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs relayed the French statement on his Twitter feed.
