Arnold's leg routine

Squats - pyramid sets power training
1 x15 to 20 warm up light weight then add weight
1x10  moderate set then add weight
2x8 working sets then add weight
2x6 working sets then add weight
1x4 to 5 heaviest set
1x10 to 15 pump set

Rest at least 2 minutes between sets

Front squats - straight sets volume training
1x15 warm up then 4 to 5 sets of 10

Leg press
1x15 warm up then 4 to 5 sets of 10

Leg extensions
1x15 warm up then 4 to 5 sets of 10

Leg curls
1x15 then 8 sets of 10

Rest 60 to 90 sec between straight sets

Arnie talking about powerlifting from his reddit chat


"When I was gaining strength, I liked to warm up with 10,8,6,4 and then stay at 2 reps for five sets, and then back to 4, then 6, and then use the stripping method and just drop plates and keep doing 4 reps until I couldn't."

Arnold recommended 3 exercises for the chest in the powerlifting example he gave in his encyclopaedia

Bench press, Incline press, flys

Do warm up sets of 10 6 4 followed by 5 working sets of 2 reps

There was also an old article on how to get massive by using these concepts recommended by Arnold

Bench press, Incline press, flys
Chins, bent rows, Dumbbell rows, t bar rows
Shoulder press, press behind the neck, side raises
Squats, leg press, leg extensions, leg curls
Barbell curls, Dumbbell curls
Close grip press, pressdowns

Start with a 10 to 12 rep warm up then add weight each set in the following fashion 8, 6, 4, 3, 1, 1
Rest a few minutes between each set
Each set is a working set apart from the warm up
Keep to the same weight on the last 2 sets
