Geithner Needs 'Reality TV Show': Bernie Marcus

In a scathing criticism of the Obama administration, Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus told CNBC Friday that Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner should have a reality-TV show about small business to illustrate how out of touch Democrats' policies are with the private sector.

“My solution is that you take a guy like Timothy Geithner and put him in a new reality show. It’s called 'Timothy Geithner Does Small Business', something like [the porn movie] 'Debbie Does Dallas', and it ends up the same way,” said Marcus. ”Basically, what they’re doing to small business is very similar in this case [to what ‘Debbie’ did to Dallas.]”

To play out his story, Marcus said Geithner would have to deal with the state, federal and local regulations that he contends stymie business, and then the public official may understand the challenges that small business people face.

Hyperbole aside, Marcus said the administration's poor performance warrants the Democrats being voted out of office. He did not, however, call for Geithner to resign.

Marcus is no longer with Home Depot , and now runs a charity called the Marcus Foundation.

He said that George W. Bush started the spending, but “he’s a novice when it comes to this new guy. They write checks for $10 million the way I write checks for breakfast.”

He added that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac continue to hurt the country.

“Eventually [Rep.] Barney Frank [D-Mass.] is going to tell people who are on unemployment ‘You can have a house for $250,000, don’t worry about it because we’re going to finance it anyway.’ ”

“This is where we’re going. And someone has to say ‘Stop, no more.’ These are two organizations that are basically not run business-like. They aren’t intelligent, they aren’t bright, that brought us to the brink of disaster.”

He also took aim at Republicans—"Some are crazy." —and Goldman Sachs   and the rest of Wall Street, whose work in derivatives has also hurt the country.

I said 'dude is right'.

I mean, how can I "wake up" when I first admit you/he are absolutely correct?

Lowe`s > Home Depot.

Fuck Home Depot.  Bastards charge way too much and besides, Lowes started in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina in 1946 and was aimed at American Made hardware.

Home Depot started as the opposite, instead looking to create a big conglomerate of warehouses of shit shit all from different countries, whoever has the cheapest crap.

I thought I was the unemployed Socialist of your nightmares?  Now I have a work history with Home Depot?

I don`t think you are quite sane James.  I have become somewhat of a phantasm that haunts your minds and bends it at a whim like a weak tree in a brisk wind.  It won`t be long before you crack.

Why did Home Depot fire you?   Maybe your Manager did not value your advice?  (Just like Republicans don't value your advice)

Why did you dream up of a scenario in which I worked at a Home Depot only to be fired by a tyrannical Republican Tea Party lunatic Manager?

You are not mentally all there my friend.  Not at all.

Nah, just misguided at times.  Maybe misled as you hope these various candidates will carry out your ideology (they won`t).

I think even if the candidates you like now won, you would probably tear them apart too.  Give them about a month or two in office and you will be ready to hand them their walking papers.

James on the other hand, is off the boards crazy.  It is amusing though.

i like it.  I'm not a fan of the dude sending beastiality images to state employees... but his own sexual preferences shouldn't influence his policy.  I'd vote for him.

The establishment Dems and GOP are freaking out over Paladino.  My BIL is from upstate and was very surprised that many of us City slickers went for Paladino.

I told him we are all hands on deck for this thing.  Cuomo is a complete disaster.

Paladino said he wants to take a "Baseball bat to the left"

He took out the RINO TRASH and will take out the far left communist trash!

Bernie Marcus on the President: "He just doesn't understand it. He never worked a day in his life.
Hugh Hewitt.com ^ | June 16, 2011 | Hugh Hewitt

The Home Depot legend wasn't mincing words in my interview with him yesterday. and he wants the president and his team to get a clue. The complete transcript is here.

HH: Let me ask you, Bernie Marcus, people will be very interested in this, do you think we can turn this around? Can this economy go back to the era of growth that Home Depot experienced in the 80s and 90s? Is that possible again?

BM: Listen, the American people are very resilient, unlike other people in the world. We just have to get out of their way. We just have to allow them to grow. And if we don’t do that, and we can’t keep putting in impediments. Look, I know so many small business people today. Nobody wants to expand. They’re not willing to expand today. There’s such uncertainty out there. You have a group of people in Washington today, where they’re the bad guys. I mean, if a man has a successful small business, and he’s making $200,000 dollars a year, he’s the enemy of the world.

HH: Yeah. Do you think the President understands this at all, Bernie Marcus?

BM: I…look, look. I’m sure this guy is, I’m sure his head is in the right place. He just doesn’t understand it. He never worked for a day in his life. How would he know it?

HH: Yeah.

BM: He never had to make a payroll, and he has surrounded himself…there’s a statistic that’s very important. They had a statistic on how many businesspeople worked in every administration. The typical one, the smallest one was something like 35% were in the business world. This administration, it’s 8%. He’s surrounded by college professors, he’s surrounded by economic professionals, but nobody has ever created a job in this administration.

Damn, that is pathetic. No wonder this is the worst administration ever.
