2010 Olympia - new judging format result in weird placings?
« on: September 25, 2010, 03:27:13 AM »
The new format since the Arnold is:

50% of score is prejudging

50% of score is the posedown (top 6 only).

Bottom 3 and top 3 scores are thrown out each round (11 judges).

So,

Guys already out of the top 6 can't move up their show is over.

6 judges scores per round per athlete are thrown out... To me that is crazy and doesn't allow a guy to move up between the 2 rounds.

That may be interesting - since it looks like Kai Greene may be out of the top six.

And he cannot be moved up tonight in the posing round?

In the past, if this format was like this, we would of had different Mr. Olympia winners.

Wonder what the fans will say tonight if Kai Greene comes in in much better conditioning than last night?

Was he off by one day?

The fact that  Jay ,Branch,Phil and Dexter are top 4 tell you that there is not judging format ,there is not judging criteria .
If bodybuilding is the combination of aesthetic ,mass and condition WTF Jay and Branch are doing in the top 4 ?

that is absolutely a scum bag descision..........why can a guy who is say, 4th at prejudging have an opportunity to move up in placing, but a guy who was 7th is totally fucked??

i can see guys out of the top 15,,,,,,,there has to be a thinning out as the contest progresses.............. but the guy who gets 7th palce at the O, is theoretically, the 7th best bodybuilder in the world............they deserve a second look

Exactly.  Jay and Branch have no business being in the top 4 of anything where aesthetics and symmetry are supposed to count for something.

The judges have every opportunity to include any competitor with a mathematical chance to move up into the top 6....past that, you have to draw the line somewhere.

i dont understand..........what your saying doesnt make sense

there are only 6 places.........so say your first 4 are set....for ex.

1. jay
2. phil
3. branch
4. dexter

but then say you have

wolf
victor
freeman
rockell

..........all pretty much neck and neck in prejudging

by the fact that there is only 6 spots..........some people who should be getting a second look are getting screwed

and dont use the excuse "you have to draw the line somewhere".............yeh, you do when you have over 20 competitors

but when your deciding the top 10 or so bodybuilders in the world.....PERHAPS THEY DESERVE A MORE THOROUGH LOOK

This is how Hide came 7th recently even though he pulled out of the night show... he was 7th in the morning already.

It can be an issue if tonight someone like Kai, or Wolfe, or Rockel comes in better shape than someone else who looked better Friday evening, but won't have a change to compete in the top six.

say, if they are one point behind Friday night for the sixth spot, and looks incredibly better tonight, they won't have a chance to compete in the top six, and the crowd won't understand why.

But the rules were changed to not include the posing round, where some competitors can do really well in.

It will be interesting.

Why not score each round individually and the winner is the best combined from both rounds....why is this complicated?  This gives each guy a chance to focus on their strength for each round.

currently if you score high in round 1 you have an inherent advantage for round 2, sp by implication round 1 is of more value than round 2.

example...if you score in the top 4 in round 1..you are guaranteed to finish no worse than 4th..kind of stupid, no?

this is on you chick for pushing the exclusion of the individual posing which should acct for 10%.  what's the pt of the posing round anymore?

pre-judging 40%
comparsions 10%
indivdual pose 10%

this allows for 7-8-9 to make a move for the 5-6 spots
top 6 40%

The top 10 should have further comparisons at the start of the posedown round not just the top 6.

The actual "posedown" probably isn't scored anyway. How can it be really? What is scored is the top 6 comparisons they do before the "posedown."

The problem is the top 6 final comparison is too short.... Make it 10 guys and do some one on one comparisons to really get the placings right.

This is the problem with having "two shows", well at least two shows on two separate nights. Theoretically, the 6th place guy can drink a couple of gallons of water and eat a shit load of salty foods and come back not deserving to even be in the top 10 and still beat a hard as nails 7th place guy who may have moved up to say 4th place!!  ???  I want my money back.  >:(

These were the raw scores from the Arnold:

Prejudging:

Phil: 1 1 1 1 1 1 2 2 2 2 2
Kai: 1 1 2 2 2 2 2 2 3 3 3

Finals:

Phil: 1 1 1 2 2 3 3 3 3 3 3
Kai: 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 2 2 3

Add them up and Kai beats Phil by only 3 points.

Problem is the IFBB take away the bottom 3 and top 3 scores from each round which makes Kai win by 5 points with a smaller sample size.

That is DUMB.

Kai lost all his 3rd place votes from the prejudging and Phil lost all his 1st place votes from the finals!

More than half the scores aren't even counted!

just seems lik a terrible descision

the top 6 -10 bodybuilders in the WORLD deserve a solid look.........sure if your in 20th place after last night there is nothing that can be done because they have to start eliminating

but people in the top ten should have the same chance to move up as the guys in the top 6 do

its just lazy..........adn its a time constraint.......get rid of some of the BORING fitness, figure, and the ambien bikini rounds

 i thought that too

some other people , including dave palumbo and chris aceto, who know their shit.........said the problem was not with his condition, ti was that he spilled over and missed his mark terribly

there are pics of kai from two weeks ago that looked like he was ready to step onstage adn dominate............so its not like he put on fat in this past week

more like he totally fucked up his carb/sodium/water/postassium depletion reloading

either way, he fucked up BAD

So Kai was 7th at prejudge and therefore was not even looked at for the finals.

The guys at RX muscle need to read the rule book they seem to think in their wrapup that the routines are still judged and that people can move up from outside the top 6 after the prejudging.
