Kinda like the circus, I guess. It's entertaining, sure, but you're still gonna tease the bearded lady for not shaving.

Why would you give a fuck what anyone else thinks about the way you live your life?!  If you like bodybuilding because you're gay, good for you.  If you like bodybuilding because your straight, good for you!

Life is a short fucking time on this planet.  As long as everyone involved is a consenting adult, do what makes you feel good and be happy.

I think the ifbb a joke but Ive made just as many posts about the sport as I have Lundgren.

I cant stand steriods for one. Im all about fitness not endarngering my health for some smchoe fest. Id much rather talk about lundgren, Dwayne Johnson, Arnold, and people on lower dosages.

My point is I love bodybuilding, but I cant stand the modern IFBB. I dont get this zero sum game Idea of the sport. Either I love the Olympia or I dont belong here.  ::)

Besides all that bodybuilding is borning to talk about. Even the makers of pumping iron admit this. I post here because it gets me excited about going to the gym while all my friends would rather talk about getting drunk or stoned.
Good answer and great post, thanks!

I know what you mean about the extreme use of steroids vs more moderate doses of the Pumping Iron era. BUT, I enjoy BB enough, that one issue like drugs, isn't going to keep me away from being a fan.
Being a gym lifter and casual fan is fine. I don't drink or get high, but wouldn't be negative around those that do.

*But seriously, if you really think the Olympia is a gaywad festival and have little respect for the pros, why do you follow the sport?*

Howard,

Who said anything about following the sport?

I think you misunderstand what's going on here.  If by following the sport, you mean keeping up with the humiliating personal details of certain pros (the case of Kai versus grapefruit), then yes, some of us "follow" the sport.  If you're truly wondering whether any of us follow the actual sport, as in keep up to date with rankings and season schedules, I think you will find very little of us on that list.

This place has evolved from being just a bodybuilding site.  If you just want a site about bodybuilding in the strictest sense, then maybe you should check out bodybuilding.com

Personally, I come to this site to laugh, debate random topics, look at WYHI threads and spend the time.  I've been to sites that center on legal & political commentary, healthcare issues and even downright comedy sites, but this place takes the prize.  Even if you never care to follow bodybuilding, you can come to this site on any given day and find 2-3 threads that will entertain you immensely and have you recalling nonsense you read on a couple of topics on random occasions throughout your day generating laughter during strange times (board meetings, when in front of a client etc).

In case you're wondering Howard, I work out for the purpose of staying healthy and for just plain old fun.  I used to work out with many pros in the NYC circuit, but I really didn't like the nonsense they were ALL involved in (Drug dealings, G4P, recreational drug use to name a few).  Aside from that, I really don't find the IFBB to be that impressive as an organization and I think AMI should truly step their game up and work on the overall production of their top sellers (Like the Mr. Olympia).  The production alone on these shows resembles that of garbage you would have easily seen during the early 80's.

So, do any of us really follow the sport? Not really.

Do most of us enjoy working out every now and then? Sure.

Are any of us seriously considering competing and making a life out of this (with the exception of maybe 3 guys)? Of course not.

Why do we come to this site?  We come here, because it's the most entertaining site on the internet.

Good post!
I too like the entertaining and clever jokes here at GETBIG.  I guess being a long time judge and competed in over 30 shows makes me a bit more "serious" about bodybuilding.
Having some fun with good natured humor is one thing , but being mean spirited and endless ripping on BB is silly and juvenille.
I guess, what makes me different , is that I really have a passion for BB as an actual sport. I also care about the overall welfare of the BB pros I admire.

Can't speak for the "getbig bunch" but this has been a slow and painful death with some minor recoveries since Arnold hung up his pouch.

As I get older I tend to get more of the "kiss my ass attitude" on things I like.
I enjoyed BB for over 30 yrs and will keep enjoying it until I croak.

True story.  A few years ago a friend of mine was doing the state show.  The discussion came up at a family gathering and a friend of a family member tried to embarass me by saying something along the lines of "oh, you like to go watch big oiled up muscle guys posing?" with one of those look around the room for attention move....my response was "I never thought of it that way, but makes me wonder about you."  everybody laughed and he slinked away.
moms got owned ;D

It definately makes me wonder sometimes too - and eventually, the trolling gets old, and they wind up in the Time Out area, and stay there.

I enjoy the entertainment, the jokes, the humor, the friends and people on here, the stories, the gossip and opinions.

But people flat out who don't like bodybuilding - jeez. Time to go.

Problem is some people who like to train, workout, and bodybuilding - don't necessarily like the 'pro' bodybuilding side of the sport, so it gets trick.

As for the Olympia Expo, I was amazed at how many people this time actually came up to me and said hello. From England, from Canada, from Mexico, from Spain, and a ton of people from the US.   And it was very cool!  I want to apoligize to some which I didnt have enough time to do more than a hello, as I had meetings, and shooting backstage, etc.

Favorite story is that a guy who did laugh and enjoy the boards decided this year to actually train and compete, and while, he did not place higher than 4th, was inspired.

i'm going to take a wild guess and say you are a pro, just logged on, and thought you'd be worshiped on this board like MD.

here's a pro board goddess:

bob chick gets respect because he puts up with this BS and has a thick skin.

she is honestly one of the most beautiful women i've ever seen.

has a great personality too - from the vids.

i wonder if she likes pandas  ;D

I know that getbig has morphed into a board with a lot of silly, often funny stuff, (sometimes)related to BB.
*But seriously, if you really think the Olympia is a gaywad festival and have little respect for the pros, why do you follow the sport?*

I don't like some sports, like NASCAR or golf, but I don't waste my time posting about it on a golf or NASCAR forum.
Making a clever , fun , joke has always been a cool, unique part of getbig. However, even after the the biggest contest weekend , the vast majority of posts are silly and insulting when it comes to the Olympia.

It is a free and open forum, and if most of the regulars feel like that fine, have at it. In my opinion, anyone who is hell bent on just making fun of the Olympia is no fan of BB. Good luck.

serious question- why do you post here when you know the tone of this forum?

Seriously, I think Muscle Mayhem is more up your alley

Now thats an honest answer. The even funnier part is there are legit parts of the forum dedicated to training, positive natural, drugs, Olympia etc. But instead of peopel posting there they come here.

I do post a lot over on MD and enjoy that forum. Most post at MD take the sport more serious as I do, and post under their actual name.
I'll put a more detailed getbig answer under Ron's post.

I was was on get big when it first got rolling over 12-13 yrs ago and stayed the course as you know. I got a kick out of meeting you Ron for the first time out in Colorado at Shawn Ray's show in 2006. Why getbig, with all the silly crap and not just on the "serious" boards you may ask? Ron and some others like Issac Hinds have met me and know that I love to cut up and goof around.
MOST take the atmosphere in BB too serious for my taste. You can train hard and love the sport of BB and still have a ton of fun. I also think it is important to RESPECT the pros as bodybuilders if you are a real fan of the sport.
Meeting Issac and doing that silly interview 4 yrs ago at the Jr USA was a lot of fun for me.
Going to events and meeting a few of the get big board members never gets old. Granted you only meet for a few minutes at just expos or contest, but that makes it special. For me it is kinda like a dysfunctional extended family reunion.
Interaction with actual pros like Bob chick is a cool thing here at GETBIG. I also like to try and push buttons and see who I can get a rise out of here on getbig. It never ceases to amaze me how the most silly thread can  blow up.

I have been on THIS G and O forum for so long it feels like home. Plus, Bob Chick and most of the regulars I respect or enjoy posting with are on here. I don't mind sifting thru some "floatsom" as Basille might say to get to the good stuff that cracks me up.

LOL, I can tell the basic biochemistry about how it works but didn't know the slang term slin was used for it...go figure.
