Bill Clinton 'Most Popular' Public Figure
Wednesday, 29 Sep 2010

Former President Bill Clinton is our most popular public figure: 55 percent of respondents have positive feelings about Clinton, compared with 23 percent who have negative feelings. That’s up from a low after he left office of 34 percent positive and 52 percent negative, according to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll.

Clinton has been sharing that popularity with Democratic candidates, hitting the campaign trail in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Maine — with more stops ahead in New Mexico and California.

Meanwhile, Sarah Palin hasn't come close to the former president in capturing the minds and hearts of the electorate, according to the poll results. In the most recent survey, 30 percent said they have positive feelings about Palin, and 48 percent negative. Those numbers are similar to those she pulled in 2008 after she and Sen. John McCain lost the presidential election.

Palin remains polarizing, the poll found, explaining why she garnered not only more positive feelings but also more negative vibes than other Republicans Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee, and Mitt Romney, all of whom are potential 2012 presidential contenders, along with Palin.
