On the heels of President Obama's criticism of Fox News in an interview with Rolling Stone, his Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton has gone out of his way to praise rival network MSNBC.

The Upshot's Michael Calderone reports that Burton was talking to a group of reporters on Air Force One when he was asked if Obama felt that people didn't appreciate or recognize his achievements. Burton said the president didn't spend time thinking about it, but that he wants people to know that his administration has "done a lot."

Then Burton praised MSNBC:

"And if you're on the left, if you're somebody like Keith Olbermann or Rachel Maddow or one of the folks who helps to keep our government honest and pushes and prods to make sure that folks are true to progressive values," Burton continued, "then he thinks that those folks provide an invaluable service. But at the same time, we need to focus our energy and our efforts on the choice that Americans have this fall."

Yes, but having a POTUS admit to stuff like this is really moving the ball down the court in the wrong direction IMHO.

Yes it does!   Of course it does.

Its wrong when Fox kneepads and its equally wrong when MSNBC kneepads.

All media should always be going after all of these bums in govt all of the time, not giving them cover for their horrific policies and lies.

Of course it does. This is unbelievable on a few levels. First of all, regardless of whether or not you think it was "common knowledge" that Fox was an offshoot of the Bush White House (which is absurd), did anyone in Bush's cabinet call out Fox's principal rival in the media and praise any of the Fox network hosts by name? This most recent admission makes Obama look weak, scared and completely incapable of handling criticism or formulating a viable rebuttal to the GOP on any of the hot button issues during the upcoming elections. Fox is the only network that hasn't lined up to kiss his ass, so he feels the need to address Fox by name? What a spineless pussy and what a joke of a Commander and Chief. Bush took 100000000000x the criticism from every major MSM outlet in the world for 8 years, was mocked day and night on The Daily Show, Colbert Report, SNL, and a million other shows and never bitched like a 6 year old girl who got sent to bed without desert. This fucking douchebag has a sense of entitlement which suggests he isn't fit to be a dog catcher, let alone leader of the free world. I seriously think that he stays up at night reading Glenn Becks blog and compiling an enemies list instead of running the country (when he's not playing golf, shooting hoops, or giving interviews to Rolling Stone).

Please explain to me how Fox News was an arm of the Bush administration. Because Karl Rove used to watch it and so did Dick Cheney? ::)

Glenn Beck wasn't even on Fox for 95% of Bush's presidency, You had Alan Colmes on Hannity and Colmes, O'Reilly who criticized Bush on numerous occasions-- Palin wasn't on Fox back then either.

You simpletons fail to realize that there is a difference between being ideologically compatible with a cable news network, and openly attempting to use a cable news network as a scapegoat to excuse your pitiful results and poll numbers as POTUS. Fox is the only right of center news network in the entire MSM. The President was a republican. Why the fuck would the cabinet members of a republican president watch MSNBC, CNN, etc. to constantly be mocked and bashed 24/7?> Not once did Bush adress MSNBC by name or openly criticize the network as preventing the progress of America (whatever that means). Not once did Bush applaud Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity or any of the other Hosts on Fox.

If you can't see the difference between those two situations, then you probably aren't bright enough to understand most things that happen in politics or life.

I can't imagine any person on television being "invaluable".

They're just fucking people...

Crackers all want to think they are more important than they are.
