True Bodybuilding - Bob Paris 1985 Mr. Olympia
« on: October 01, 2010, 06:09:39 AM »

I'm almost done with his book, and thought I'd remind everyone here where the sport once stood!

He was on more than that!  Although for the 85 Olympia he said in his book he did drop the dosage as much as he possibly could!

He does sound a little arrogant in that interview.  However, I think he was purposely trying to stray from the "dumb muscle-head" stereotype.  Regardless, I think his physique appealed and would still appeal to a much broader fan base than today's bodybuilders who appeal to a smaller, more hardcore base.

It's a shame that you have  have no appreciation for a truly aesthetic physique. I was a judge for many years with the IFBB and always felt that Paris was under appreciated by both fans and judges. If he had one flaw it was usually that he seldom peaked at contest time.

What year do you think was his best condition?  I'd probably say 1988, but that is judging strictly from the vids and pics that I have seen.

Of note is that he was voted as the most aesthetic bodybuilder of all time in a 2006 or 2007 Flex Magazine poll/article.

Does he mentions doses at all in the book? I know that he didn't like the way the sport was heading. I Wonder what somone with his genetics, which were obviously great, was using.

I hate bodybuilders who use gear bitching about using gear or lamenting about how it's ruining the sport , if that's the way you feel don't be part of the problem.

I think he was bitching about the increase in the amount of gear that needed to be used to stay competitive, not necessarily using "small" amounts.

You are correct 1988 was his best condition and still overlooked. The trend at that time was bigger was better and still continues today

tough line to walk bc mr o cant get dwarfed though...
i agree with you too
although,,, big, conditioned, well put together and semi proportionate cut up and dry mass is what wins

remember when the memo re waistlines when everyone was pushin mass...

guys have to be concerned with midsection too sometimes genetic but most pros dont spend time on that bc workin everything else to get bigger

credit to jay this yr and last in most of his vids he worked abs at end wrkout... his structure like joints he cant control so,, besides the width he carries makes up bc example look at bill buchannon sometimes if waist is too thin it takes away from the power of physique, thats oldtime thinking anyways.

put bob paris up there today even with 30lbs more and it be the same, jay still out masses everyone else there and its developed mass, same with branch who what lacks in structure or aesthetic tastes  makes up for in condition proved by his placing over dexter

how bout victor mrtinz, who even ronnie predicted would be mr o by now or soon, heath from now where, prob wasnt even bbn when that was said... yet vic has/had all the tools in that aesthetic pleasing look everyone favors, basically paris type with 30lbs extra and proof is hes been close, won arnolds just not o's, jay outmasses everybody, except dex one year.

thinking about it jays deserves credit for stayin close for so long and of course hes mr o now bc he was the only one that could hang with ronnie for the long haul, others came close but werent consistant.
every so often someone changes the biz in all fields, for bb recently was ronnie before him dorian arnold, etc...

we thoguh we were seein it with kai and phil but maybe it may be someone placing low now thats start takin jay on and breaking top3.

look at ronnie who had that parisesqu look with the small waist and he had cut mass good bis,,, he placed bottom,,, when he got freaky even though waistline/etc started to suffer he won
