I would have to say that the Olympia was at most 75% sold out.  Does anyone have the official figures?

What would it take for bodybuilding to go mainstream?  No, I'm just kidding asking that.  :)  Bodybuilding is a niche industry, but I was still surprised to see so many empty seats at the finals.

bodybuilding isnt goiing mainstream.....ever..... ...so we can stop wasting our breaths

as a matter of fact, the people who run the IFBB/NPC almost certainly dont want it going mainstream........becasu e taking it mainstream would turn the sport on its ear......if the sport was mainstream..........it would be opened up to mainstream steroid scrutiny...........and the leaders like the manions and the weinbergers and the weiders would be exposed and not only allowing , but encouraging a culture the doesnt only permit, but is based on steroids use

it would mean a shake-up........complete re-organization, and heads rolling..........the leaders of the industry dont want that.........they are making money, they run the sport like gangsters.........if the sport went mainstream, all this would end

if bodybuilding went mainstream suddenly, bodybuilding as we know it will end

This may help in your assessment....the entite back area, behind the production box....we dont sell, as it's considered obstructed view, Other than that, it was pretty packed

Got it.  So how close was it to being sold out?  It seemed to be less than in 2007 where I thought it looked close to being sold out.

I'd say 65-70% full.

That seemed to be the case to me.

At the Arnold in 2007, it looked to be absolutely sold out.  I remember looking around and not really seeing any seats left to sit in.  The 2007 Olympia was also very full, although I do remember a fair number of empty seats.  But this year, I found there to be more empty seats than either of the 2007 shows.

Personally I would like to do my best to promote and support bodybuilding even though I understand that it does not have mainstream appeal.  Despite that, I still think shows should be able to sell out.  I think that is a perfectly reasonable goal and possibility.

The cheapest ticket for the finals was $70 + fees & taxes.  That's a lot to pay for sitting in the back and watching it on the video screens.  Why not discount those tickets to fill it up?

it will never go mainstream. it will never go mainstream. ever. get this in your head. no "normal" people want to see oiled up muscle men in posing trunks doing battle (serious business we know, no homo).

Not really much these days.  But hey, I'm still the 9th strongest man in my city and a better night's sleep away from having qualified for the 2011 Ontario Strongman at around 165 pounds.

Yeah, I was joking about the mainstream comment but I still think the shows should be able to fill up the arena.  How many total seats are there?  7,000?

Bob said there were 8,000 in attendance.  So more than that.

This will be Jay's undoing. I foresee a field  that is stronger than this year's. Kai has learned his lesson and will peak, Phil will be better than ever, Vic if he gets his head straight will be off the meter, Roelly will not be smooth. Dex, well he either will keep going down, or they will finally stop dogging him and place him above Branch...
