Most educated people at the university level are not theists in my experience. They are functional atheists. And remember Loco, you too are an atheist with regards to the gods of the Hindus and the Ancient Greeks.

I have a very fulfilled life. I am not complaining. I have said many times I almost never deal with theists in real life. Although recently I did when I was working on a voice over project for a game and the lead writer was a devout Christan and Bible literalist as well as a biology teacher. I couldn't believe she thought the Garden of Eden story was literally true as well as Noah's Ark; a high school biology teacher. Do you want someone like that teaching your children?

Sure; all those political movements (in reality political religions since dogma=religion) were modern movements that took place in the 20th century. They had modern technology at there disposal. Who know what the Roman Catholic Church might have done 500 years ago if they had had access to machine guns, trains and bombs?
