Unemployment hits 10%......AGAIN!!!
« on: October 07, 2010, 07:48:02 PM »
And, Joe Biden wonders why the crowd in Wisconsin was so dull.

Now, Gallup hits them with THIS!! So much for the summer recovery!! If the Labor Statistics number mirror this, it's one step closer to the woodshed, for the Dems.

Well, the employment pool expanding does have a lot to do with it. I can't tell if Showstoppa is being sarcastic or whatever but yes, the employment pool is expanding and that does have a hand in U.E. increasing. The other part of the coin, a very important part, is our economy keeps shedding close to 500k jobs a week  and private employers are either adding jobs at a painfully slow rate or they are outright cutting jobs as we saw this week. Remember, 125k added per month is the MINIMUM our economy needs to create to simply keep up with the growth in population. 125k to just keep the U.E. # stable. We aren't anywhere close to that, in fact, we are heading in the other directio.

More people entering the labor market + no jobs being available+ 500K a week losing jobs + a flat lined labor market = U.E. going up.

Serious question about the employment pool expanding...we know people have far fewer children for the last 40yrs than the past generations. Nothing has equaled the baby boomer generation. We know legal immigration is a lot harder than it used to be, they don't let as many in as they did in the past. So my questions:

1. Are illegals counted as part of the expanding pool?
2. If people have smaller families, less children to grow up and join the work force, how can that expand the pool?

As I see it now, the only way the employment pool could be expanding beyond what its ever been is if illegals are counted.

I could be missing something here and being completely retarded, so open my eyes if I'm missing it.

im am unsure about the illegals being counted I would have to assume that since some illegals have fake documents etc...some of them are counted though.

The thing is that to be considred unemployed you have to be actively seeking a job...alot of ppl have given up and those ppl are no longer considered unemployed. When these ppl begin looking again as many have it expands the unemployment pool...

Good point...the whole "not counted" thing is BS...the "True Unemployment" number is alays much higher. I've heard/read in several different sources that the Obama admn throws people into the "They don't count" batch after being unemployed after 6 months, I don't know how true that is but it wouldn't surprise me.

As for your points, I understand what you're saying, people coming back into the job force expands the job force, but these people were already part of the original job force and as I see it, that wouldn't truly expand the "True" job force by a number greatly beyond what it can handle...after all, it's handled it before.

its all terminology, like you said the true number of unemployed is much higher but given the way its determined in regards to the numbers the govt gives out is what im talking about.

I agree with you but in order to compare things from week to week and month to month etc...there needs to be a set of defined terms that we use and those are them...

the unemployment pool has increased and will likely continue to increase given the upcoming holidays...

believe it or not there is actually some positive economic news out there which is horrible LOL considering what we view as good news these days...

mergers and acquisitions are starting up again, somehow the govt found 300 million bushels of corn that they forgot the had ??? ::)(how these fuckers remember to zip up after pissing is beyond me), china cut steel production by 25% etc...

Exactly!! This was done in an attempt to make it appear as if Obama's stupid stimulus is actually doing something.

Once again, we have a topic about economics and conspicuous by their absence are the members of "Team Kneepadder". That would mean they're either surfing for more Palin/O'Donnell stuff, or they're whining about Fox News again.

Economy Sheds 95,000 Jobs; Rate at 9.6% as Easing Looms
Published: Friday, 8 Oct 2010 | 8:38 AM ET Text Size By:

________________________ _________________

The U.S. economy unexpectedly shed jobs in September for a fourth straight month as government payrolls fell and private hiring was less than expected, hardening expectations of further Federal Reserve action to spur the recovery.

Nonfarm payrolls dropped 95,000, the Labor Department said on Friday. Private employment, a better gauge of labor market health, increased 64,000 after rising 93,000 in August. A total of 77,000 temporary jobs for the decennial census were terminated last month.

AP
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Analysts polled by Reuters had expected overall payrolls would be unchanged, with private-sector hiring gaining 75,000.

The government revised data for July and August to show 15,000 more jobs lost that previously reported. It also said its preliminary benchmark revision estimate indicated employment in the 12 months to March had been overstated by 366,000.

The unemployment rate was unchanged at 9.6 percent in August. In the wake of dovish speeches by senior Fed officials, including Chairman Ben Bernanke, analysts believe it now almost certain the U.S. central bank will launch a second round of asset purchases—with  any expecting a move in November.

"They may delay it till December, but the odds favor we get something,'' said Michael Strauss chief economist at Commonfund in Wilton, Connecticut.

Expectations the Fed, which has already pumped $1.7 trillion into the economy by buying mortgage-related and government bonds, would announce a second phase of quantitative easing at its Nov. 2-3 meeting have buoyed U.S. stocks and prices for shorter-dated government debt and have undercut the dollar.

The employment report is last before the Nov. 2 mid-term elections in which President Barack Obama's Democratic Party is expected to suffer large losses amid voter dissatisfaction with the economy.

Opinion polls suggest Republicans will take control of the U.S. House of Representatives, which may give them a platform to pursue their agenda of restricting government spending to reduce a record budget deficit.

The recovery from the longest and deepest downturn since the 1930s has been slow to generate jobs. Private hiring last month was held back by the goods-producing industries, where payrolls contracted 22,000 as manufacturing employment fell 6,000 after declining 28,000 in August.

Construction payrolls fell 21,000, reflecting the lasting troubles in the housing market, after August's boost from the return of striking workers.

Private services sector employment rose 86,000 after increasing 83,000 in August. Temporary help services—seen as a harbinger of permanent hiring—increased 16,900 last month after rising 17,700 in August.

"Job growth in the goods producing industries has been bottoming out. What we need to see, to get a really positive feed back loop in the economy, is the services sector start to edge up,'' said Troy Davig, senior U.S. economist at Barclays Capital in New York.

The end of temporary census jobs and the loss of 76,000 local government jobs pushed total government payrolls down 159,000 last month.

The length of the average workweek was unchanged at 34.2 hours for a third straight month.

And the sad thing about all this is that there are a lot of morons on this board who are willing to give Obama's hopey changey stuff another 4 years.

Have you ever look at my running thread on how Obama is destroying the nation?

The articles in there cover many areas and show exactly what many of us have said - obama is systematically trying to shut down the nation.

I read a lot of those articles you put up. Thanks for doing that.

A little depressing seeing the current and predicted damage to the country due to all of the traitor's policies.

I just want every single person who accuses me of saying I'm crazy to accuse obama and the dems of intentionally destroying the nation to go look at that thread and tell me what alternative theory they have for this?

Even BF - who is not even close to a right winger - had said that thread is scary as hell when you tally up the cumulative effect of all this craziness.
