"Some argue in favor of cops, some argue in favor of judges, some argue in favor of the so called criminal justice system, but these types of "BAD APPLES " are more prevalent than one is willing to admit to. Recently there was a cop in Philadelphia who shot himself and tried to blame two Black men for it, when his whole goal was to get on disability, then another drunk cop runs over and kills a woman on her way home from church, another young man was shot and killed with the excuse of he was holding a knife (even though the knife was not his and his finger prints were not on it), then another man was shot and killed with the claim he had a gun, but again there was no evidence the gun belonged to the now dead man...here we go again with more disturbing news about the mentality of cops..."
Ok I get it, you don't like cops. That's fine. I don't like some cops either, but I try to stick with the facts and so I will address a couple of your ancedotal evidences of bad cops...
It's not really an excuse if you shoot someone who is holding a knife. Depending on the circumstances, it is a reason. Being in the biz, I know that the absence of identifiable fingerprints do not mean a lot. Knife handles are typically not conducive to fingerprints. Smudged prints are more common than clear prints on most surfaces. I have printed at least 35 cars in my career, and more often than not, finding a viable print is about a one in 10 prospect. About the knife being his.... I didn't register my knives, I have to wonder how you concluded the knife wasnt his? What was the outcome of the investigation into the shooting? Each shooting is intensely investigated..
2nd case... Can't recall even one bad guy I arrested with a gun, that had a gun that "belonged to him". That means nothing. In fact, I would have been shocked if I did arrest someone who had a gun that actually belonged to him. Again, what did the investigation into the shooting conclude?
You gave two cases, concluding the cops must have done something wrong, but your evidence to that conclusion was just not there.
In the case of the detective with the woman in the bathroom, he's a bad cop. They exist no doubt. Had our share of them where I work. But if we are as corrupt as you think we are, why is that story in the paper? We cover everything up. His word against hers?
I don't work for NYPD, but I will tell you how it works where I work. We hate bad cops... HATE them. You think you don't like cops? We HATE bad cops. They set us back 40 yrs everytime they pull that crap. Most of us pride ourselves on being professional, honest and fair, and then some bozo in a cop uniform decides he wants to abuse the authority he was given to protect and to serve and everyone focuses on what he did, and the tire I changed for the elderly woman in 100 Degree weather on I35, the dinner we didn't get on shift last night because mom fell asleep on the couch and her 3 yr old decided to walk out the door 3 hrs ago and we all went door to door throughout the neighborhood till we found him, the visitor from out of state who is lost and instead of just giving directions and knowing they will never find the place, we say "follow me" and lead them to where they are going, all those little things we do all the time, is for nothing. We root for the cop who was caught abusing their authority to be fired, and when it's serious, we are pulling for the judges to give the longest sentence. We hate the bad cops more than you ever will.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's fine to publicize when cops do wrong. I look at the youtube videos where cops are caught abusing people and I'm aware it happens. But the truth is, if people posted a video everytime a cop went out of his way to help someone, or did an outstanding job at a hostage/barricaded subject scene, or talked a mentally ill person out of a weapon instead of shooting them, there would be millions of videos and no one would bother to watch them... Which is why some people get the impression there are a lot of bad cops, or cops are corrupt... Each year cops have millions upon millions of contacts and encounters with citizens that go well, some go really well.... the only ones that make it to the news or youtube are the very small percentage of ones that don't go so well. It tends to make it seem like a lot.
