Rory Reid: Healthcare reform could end up hurting Nevada

Gubernatorial candidate Rory Reid (D) said Thursday that the new health reform law could hurt Nevada.

During a televised debate, Rory Reid, the son of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), said he does not support the legal challenges against the health overhaul. Yet, he does believe that President Obama’s signature achievement could negatively affect Nevada.

“I don’t deny, however,” Rory Reid said, “that Nevada needs to be vigilant on this issue. The law that was passed gives time for the new system to go into effect, but there is potential for it to put significant pressure on states because Medicaid rates could go up significantly.”

Rory Reid then made the case for his proposed Medicaid reforms.

Sen. Reid, who is facing a challenging reelection race against Sharron Angle, played a leading role in the passage of healthcare reform. He pressed Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) in 2009 to alter the health bill in order to increase the federal money allocated for Nevada.

Brian Sandoval, Rory Reid’s GOP challenger, said during the debate -- which was televised live by C-SPAN – that he supports the litigation against the health law. Sandoval added that the law is causing premiums to increase, saying, “That’s why that law needs to go away.”

Sandoval also endorsed Arizona’s border security law while Rory Reid made the case for comprehensive immigration reform.

Both the Reid-Sandoval and Reid-Angle matchups are considered tossups.

I was at the gym last night and was having a discussion that later turned into an argument with a older Limo Lib type over this very issue and how obama lied about health care not taxing people who make under 250k a year.   This guy is usually pretty well informed, but was clueless as to the medicaid aspect of ObamaCare that is going to SLAM everyone of every income level. 

The guy flipped out on me when I told him Obama is intentionally lying to people because he knows most people are gullible and will believe almost anything and fear challenging his lies out of racial white guilt. 

Needless to say, you guys have no idea how bad ObamaCare is.

i agree with you on obamacare, but i've only once had someone start up political talk in the gym.  I was like "yeah, I don't follow that" and walked away.  I'm there to lift weights, not get all emotional and try to convert some fatass on the leg press machine

This guy is a latte lib who drives a porshce about 60 y/o.  nice guy and we usually talk for hours on stuff and he was shocked the first few times he spoke to me as to how much I know on a lot issues pertaining to banking, the economy, etc as he is a wall streeter. 

Most of the other guys cant really discuss these issues with him as 99% of the place is like Jersey Shore. 

Anyway, when I explained that 16 million are getting moved to medicaid and that ObamaCare has provisions prohibiting the States from cutting medicaid at all and that all those costs are paid 50% by the states and that most of those costs are picked up in peoples' real estate tax, he went white and almost had to sit down when he realized the implications of this. 

I then reminded him of why Nelson held out so long and that this was the real payback Nelson wanted, he realized why i was so utterly pissed off at this whole mess. 

The mandate, while disgusting, is not the real reason all these states are going after ObamaCare, its the unfunded mandate of shifting millions onto medicaid and the costs they will have to pay for this.
