when you say techno the first guy to come to mind is sven rath. throw speedy j in there too. yoji- now, that cat is fucking TECHNO. carl cox is techno too, just a little more mainstream.
the problem is most people call all the electronic music they hear by one generic name- 'house', 'techno', 'trance' etc. even though they aren't really the same at all once you get into it.
to the OP- once you get into it you can find out what sound best fits you. once you get there then it'll go by mood. i started out listening to it and it all sounded the same. after a while that changes.
i like different genres at different times. i like tribal and sometimes minimal when i'm driving. i like dirty house when i'm partying. you find a lot of your taste once you get into it will be decided by what your in the mood to hear.
