Just different taste. Most wealthy people get off on spending a ton of cash. It's a hobby to them. Finding shit to "fix up", having landscapers over a ton, repairing the driveway...it gives them shit to do.
Spending 40 million on a house, I guess I'd have to accumulate that, before deciding if I wanted to spend it on a place I sleep.
