I think the new one is not a good succesor to Colin Chapman`s legacy and token car.  Who really wants another Gallardo type car.  The Esprit used to be a great Touring Sports Car with a racecar feel, yet elegant enough to drive around town.  It seems to be losing its "Noblity" with the new design.

That's a really nice car. Always wanted one of those.

What year model was yours?

I find them somewhat overpriced though.

Get a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4. Cheap sportscar nice to look at and nice to drive. I prefer the first generation 91-93.

Some 3KGT's

Great design and good choice of powertrain but most of the proposed future models are just too heavy for a Lotus.. Lightness has always been the Lotus trademark. Regardless I think they'll all be fantastic to drive (and look at).

2013 Lotus Esprit

Me likey, apparently it will be using a Twin Turbo version of the Lexus IS-F engine, or it will use the LF-A's....I forgot, it might be the mid engine Elan that will get the IS-F's 5.0 V8 and the Esprit that gets the LF-A's V10. I say this because they have a engine agreement with Toyota, that is why the Elise has a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder and the Evora has the 3.5 liter V6.

Lotus' are known for their light weight and handling, but they tend to be the middle of the pack supercars...

You're talking about the Elise?  :o

Lotus making a profit and selling more cars (even if some are heavier and more luxurious) is good but if they lose overall their trademark lightness and driving dynamics they won't be able to compete with other manufacturers.

Although not in the Lotus market, we are planning to get into the lottery for a 2012 Mustang Boss 302.

If that doesn't work out, we'll likely go for a 2011 Shelby Cobra.

lotus is a ford,

Actually, I don't think it is any longer.

Ford sold their stake in it to a company called "Proton" I think... At least that's what I thought.

Lotus used to use Ford engines in their F1 cars, but they never really produced any cars for Ford (that I know of). Lotus also would do  R&D work for other car companies, for instance they developed the LT5 engine in the ZR-1. Wikipedia says that GM acquired Lotus in 1986 (I didn't know that)...odd how Lotus was still using 4 cylinder engines in it's Esprit, while the Corvette got a nice engine---there must have been some type of agreement.

$1400 for that windshield to be replaced back in the 70's.  My mom wanted one until she found out it was fiberglass. Ended up with a new 280Z
