Alicia is from the same area where I did some growing up: Hell's Kitchen. It used to be heavy Irish, but, is now more black and pr with white transplants who moved into recently built hi-rises. It's also very close to broadway. That's where she got her theatrical influence.
Ironically, what bad about NYC, that it's cold and uncaring, is also what's good about it. You can be anonymous without people being "all up in your bidness."
I'm pretty much over this town. I like American redneck culture: Musclecars, choppers, southern rock, fishing etc. and you don't get any of that, here. Unfortunately, I don't have enough to retire and can't make upstate what I make, here, So, I'm stuck for awhile.

That said, if you're looking for a big city experience, there's nothing like it.
