You should be thankful for the fact that most of the good things in your life are the product of blind luck. That is all most things are. You could have been born in a third world country and never had the opportunities you had; could have never met your wife and still be stuck in Germany, etc. All luck.

Maybe blessing the food, a a precaution for it not being poisoned? I know during Thanksgiving we always have a big prayer for the food that was prepared for us...my folks used to have evening prayer as well.

I just always thank whoever prepared the said meal. However, if I prepare my own food, then I'm not gonna thank meself...that'd be weird! WTF!         I should let be known that me is agnostic.
