Vietnam burning monk - inner strength or stupidity?
« on: October 23, 2010, 03:42:22 AM »

This has got to be one of the greatest acts of inner strength and concentration ever performed by a human being. Imagine sitting there calmly as you burn to death in agonising pain, yet you don't even blink. Seriously hardcore!  :o
I hate the State.

I often think about that actually. Hes gotten his mind into a place where hes just accepted killing himself, and not just by going "BOOM" but by fucking BURNING do death without making a sound.

in-fucking-credible

didn't it actually result in something good also?

the mind is the most powerful thing ever.

Dude, it wasn't mere suicide. He did it to protest the war and yes, it got results, the whole world paid attention to what happened after that.

LMAO!.......Yeah the world paid attention and then they went back to doing what they do best.........waging war.  I agree it's a pretty amazing feat.  But I've also come to the conclusion that the world is going to move into the direction it wants to and there isn't a damn bit of difference some fucking monk, mother Teresa, Martin Luther King, or joe schmoe can really do about it.  Maybe it's because the people who run the world are all fucking evil tyrants worshiping a wooden owl and molesting children in their spare time or maybe that's just human destiny....who the fuck knows......but has ANYTHING really changed in the thousands of years since the dawn of man?

If the monk did this to himself, this is not a true buddhist view.  You cannot take your own life-you MUST stick it out and face your karmic predicament.

I think if we would have really cared to "win" the hearts and minds of the good people of Iraq and Afgahnistan we would have
done it.
However its far more sporting and fun to keep killing them.

He might be able to set himself on fire and not flinch but I dont think he could handle being flamed by Getbig and not flinch.

You cannot win a war against an army that is made up of the people and who mingle with teh people. The British army could not defeat the IRA, the Brits failed in Afghanistan in the 19th Century. America failed in Vietnam and I also believe they will fail in Afghan and Iraq.
