I need some tips for my website
« on: October 27, 2010, 12:14:38 PM »
I am getting all the material ready. So I am ready to talk with a website designer.

I asked 240 to do it, but he declined cause his lawyer told him to stay away from anything government related   ( In my bio I mention having been in mind-control experiments)

So now I am still shopping

I am sure there are some people here who are in the know. Any tips would be appreciated. I want it to come out as good as possible. It will be simple, unique and it will harbor a wealth of information.

Everyone's setup is different. You'll never get the same shade/tint/color on every comp. Mac color is specifically different from that of PC's. Or make that Gamma, actually. Every browser renders sites slightly different from each other too. You could probably get close, but I wouldn't think the color would be an exact match.

I gotta run, but you may want to look into building a Wordpress site. It'll save you cash even if you hire a designer to get it up and running for you.

One word:

Wordpress

Thousand of free themes - mods - hacks etc.
Best bet for somebody like you who (dont take this wrong) hasn't a clue what he is doing.

So you basically need a designer who's willing to travel around the world and adjust the website visitors computer monitor color/gamma settings to match your personal taste  ::)

I might regret that but I am always happy to help.
You need a shared hosting account which means you are sharing a server with (set number) of other users. Thats the best until your page (if ever) becomes so popular that you need to upgrade to a VPS (virtual privat server) or as in my page a fully dedicated server -
Godaddy has good prices - http://www.godaddy.com/hosting/web-hosting.aspx?ci=8971  it's pretty simple you order on their webpage, they will send you an email with all the login details - you cannot do anything wrong.
You need to check out their disclaimers they don't allow all webpage content, for example my webpage shows a lot of graphic stuff (since its warpage/military page) that means I need a hoster that has no problem with that and allows me to host the webpage - nude pictures are usual alright straight up porn is on most webhosters not allowed same as for Torrents etc.

Even if I don't think installing wordpress on any server is very hard I can understand that it might be though for somebody like yourself who has never done it.
I be happy to install wordpress for you and give some quick advice, but there is tons of info and guides how to use it and how to set it up.

Let me know if you need help

Edit: Getting a webpage up and running can be extremly easy, not like In the days when I started when youhad to code everything yourself :D
However it all comes down to your idea what you are trying to do with your page and what you will display.
You could easily spend a year to plan everythjng and in some instances it takes that long if you are planing a very large project.
But if you just want to test the water than I can say it can be done in litteraly a few hours, the hard work comes after that with promotion content adding etc.

That's easy. Book a flight to New York and set up a strategic meeting with one of their top agencies. They'll probably start at $10k or so. Once done, establish a budget of $50k-$100k to hire the company to create you a top notch, no compromises website.

When done, post link to GetBig and we'll let you know how you did.

So now I am still shopping

Wordpress is much more than a blog and you don't have to necessarily use that functionality, but it's obvious you wouldn't want to use a stock theme as you want an original design. It's still a great way to go, but if you're willing pay you could definitely get a custom site developed form the ground up. Creating any sort of navigation you could think of is definitely doable, though not always recommended. I'd just advise against using flash for any nav animations. Html5, CSS3 and Canvas/jquery/javascript could handle any animations quite easily and are better for seo purposes.

We host all our client's and my personal sites through GoDaddy as well and haven't had any issues whatsoever with them.

My latest project is a redesign our first client's site. Just coding it atm --> http://bit.ly/dn8VC8

Thanks, it's about 40% done as far as coding goes. Looking to launch in a couple weeks after I'm done school. Looks slightly different, but by different I mean 'better'. Trying to talk my partner into letting me redo our biz site now.

did you go to school for website design?, or did you teach yourself?, and if so do you have any good resources to learn how to develop websites.  Thanks for your help
