Nice gesture, but not sure I agree with using tax dollars, as he is apparently proposing.  It is outside the box though.

Hawaii homeless man given plane ticket to Calif.

A Hawaii legislator is giving $100 to help fly a homeless man back to his wife in California.

Rep. John Mizuno, a Democrat representing Kalihi, donated his personal money to supplement the $274 cost for George Vonner's one-way ticket to Ontario, Calif.

Mizuno said Vonner could only afford $180 for the ticket.

Vonner, whose flight leaves Thursday, came to Hawaii seeking employment with the understanding he could live with his cousin.

But the housing arrangement fell through, and Vonner became homeless last month.

Mizuno is promoting legislative proposals to reunify the homeless with their families while reducing costs to taxpayers.

In July, he gave $100 to fly another homeless man home to Seattle.

it's not outside the box for Hawaii.  On the last episode of Stephen Fry in America he goes to Hawaii and a sheriff said that's how they cleaned up areas, by giving undesirables one way tickets to California.  A buddy of mine who is a sheriff here told me about a time that they did that with a tranny.  They made sure he got on the bus, one way.  The practice reminds me of the start to Rambo.

BB probably can't say the same thing he just did for all the undesirables given one way tickets.  I did watch that sheriff from Hawaii say that's how they cleaned up areas there.

We are already the #1 state for homeless bums. That is what endless handout programs get you.

They tried offering free bus tickets to local derelicts a couple years ago here until the local ACLU types got their panties in a wad.

Who the heck are you to comment on what he does with his personal money? What absolute gaul! Sheesh!
First you want to tell women what they can do with their own bodies, ...now you want to tell legislators how to spend their own money? How about you just get your nose out of everybody else's business?

The bums here are a huge collective pain in the ass. They are CONSTANTLY harassing people downtown to the point many don't bother gong out especially after dark. There are also several campsites that are drug and sex-offender communes.

This man is not really homeless. He has a Penthouse in the Trump Tower and owns a brownstone on the Upper East side. He used to be a broker at Goldman Sachs, but makes more panhandling than he does on bonuses derived from tax payer bailouts.   ::)

That's too bad. I guess he won't be enjoying the 50 foot yacht he bought from the proceeds of panhandling

I do remember seeing an investigative report years ago and some of them made a lot of money.  If it's true, the ones that are doing that are taking away from the ones who really need a handout and I'm sure like you say most are probably not doing so hot.
