The problem with hunting wild animals is that it fucks up the ecosystem usually.
Unless there happens to be an abundance of the animal in the area, and hunting that animal will bring the ecosystem back into balance. But this is usually not the case.

That's why every state has a DNR which sets QUOTAS on deer tags, turkey tags, bear tags...etc. So the ecosystem will be balanced and not over populated so you see animals dying from starvation, destroying crops, more vehicle collisions...etc.
Just in Illinois in 2009, 80,000 (give or take a few thousand) deer were harvested. They're not going to in danger of being under populated anytime soon.
